Indialantic is the kind of city where everyone knows each other's names, where days are spent outdoors at the beach and evenings are spent at home with family or out at the closest seafood shack. This barrier island community sits just south of Cape Canaveral and east of Melbourne, offering uninterrupted public beaches and a mix of luxury condos and comfortable bungalows on streets lined with towering palm trees and pines. "Indialantic is such a laid-back, relaxed community," says Realtor Mary Goodwin, a 20-year Realtor with The Goodwin Group at Compass Realty. "Everyone here is so friendly, and it's an active community. The weather is so beautiful that you always want to be out in nature all the time. And even though we get some tourists, it's more of a family-centric, tight-knit community."

Miles of Atlantic beachfront and two locally loved parks
With miles of public oceanfront, spending time at the beach is a significant part of life in Indialantic. All year round, residents swim in the ocean and walk, run or sunbathe on the golden, sugar-soft sands. According to Goodwin, it's a popular beach for surfers, and on summer mornings, colorful surfboards pepper the rolling waves. On the other side of town, residents may be found fishing, kayaking or boating on the Indian River Lagoon.
Indialantic has two public parks: James H. Nance Park and the Hoover Middle School Athletic Complex. Nance Park is a well-maintained beachside park that's the heart of many of Indialantic's community celebrations. Goodwin has a special connection to the park, home to the Mikey Goodwin Memorial Playground. Her son, Mikey, was a well-known basketball player and active community player in Indialantic. The ADA-accessible playground features colorful play structures and a commemorative plaque sharing information about Mikey's life. "The whole community came together and built this for us," Goodwin says. "It speaks to how caring and close everyone is here. I love visiting because it feels like a place where I can be close to Mikey."

Local businesses support the Indialantic community
The community is known for having very few chains, save grocery stores. Mom-and-pop shops and restaurants cluster around A1A and Fifth Street, keeping the economy driven by local business owners. Goodwin notes the popularity of Longdoggers, a surf shack-style restaurant with several locations across Brevard County that originated in Indialantic. "They're a fixture of the community, and they donate a lot to local organizations," Goodwin says. For more dining and retail, residents can travel to the mainland, which has big box stores and a thriving downtown.
