Relaxed living on the barrier islands of Florida's Space Coast
Situated between miles of sugar-soft beaches on the Atlantic Ocean and the fishing haven of the Indian River Lagoon section of the Intracoastal Waterway, Indian Harbour Beach offers a laidback lifestyle on the Florida coast. The city is one of several small communities on the barrier island across from Melbourne, Florida, each with a distinct feel. Indian Harbour Beach is on the more commercial side of the A1A Jimmy Buffet Highway, but quiet coves of midcentury homes and townhouse communities surround the hotels and shops that line the highway. "Indian Harbour Beach and Satellite Beach are next door to each other, but the biggest difference is that Indian Harbour Beach is less commercial than Satellite Beach. But it still offers more amenities than Melbourne Beach," says Realtor Paige Lane, who has been selling homes for 9 years with Keller Williams Brevard. "It shares that family-oriented, friendly feel people love, and it's a very active, social community. That's why so many people move here or retire here."

A thriving aerospace industry in Brevard County
One of Indian Harbour Beach's largest employers is nearby Patrick Space Force Base, which employs around 10,000 military personnel and civilians. There is a large military and government presence here in addition to the Space Force, including the Navy and Coast Guard. Aerospace manufacturing is also a major industry, including NASA's nearby Kennedy Space Center and Collins Aerospace. Monica McKune, who has been selling homes for 22 years and is a broker associate with Keller Williams Brevard, also mentions the area's newest addition. "Northrop Grumman is bringing over 1,200 people here, which is adding a younger energy to the Melbourne area." New businesses and restaurants are popping up here because people are trying to engage with that younger crowd. Small businesses and restaurants along A1A are another important industry.

There are also townhouse communities, condos on the waterfront and upscale subdivisions. Buyers will also find homes on the Indian River Lagoon, which is popular with boaters and anglers. Most commercial areas surround the A1A
In addition to the shops and businesses spread across the city, Indian Harbour Beach has a large concentration of dining and retail along the A1A. Shopping centers and restaurants line the road, but retail makes way for more and more residences as the A1A moves south. "Most of the business here is independent, and there are very few chains here, save a Walmart and Publix and a couple of fast-food restaurants," says Realtor Kellie Bowling, who has been selling homes for almost 20 years with Compass Florida. Residents can cross the river and visit Melbourne or Palm Shores for larger shopping centers and big box stores. Downtown Melbourne is only 10 miles away and offers several upscale restaurants and homey taverns on New Haven Avenue.
