Quiet living in the foothills
In the small, unincorporated town of Indian Hills, 23 miles southwest of Denver, Homestead is a neighborhood with a longstanding reputation as a getaway from the big city. “Back in the 1920s and 30s, these were mostly vacation homes, where the wealthy would come in the summer to get away from the city and also the heat. Our higher elevation gives us a milder climate,” says Jackie Yost of Your Castle Real Estate, who has over three decades of experience in the area. “You still get the feeling that you’re secluded. Besides a few restaurants off the main road, it’s just houses and trees out here.” Today, Homestead remains a prestigious neighborhood with a highly educated population. Over 70% of residents have a college degree, compared to the national average of 34%, while 31% have an advanced degree. There is little turnover in the area as 97% of residents own their homes, but long-time neighbors may not see each other often because of Homestead’s mature aspen trees and large lots.
Newer homes in Homestead are modern or contemporary style, but still use elements that fit the mountain style.
Some homes in Homestead opt for more expansive land in their backyards but still enjoy the scenic views.
