Beautiful rolling hills in eastern Louisville
Named for what once was among Kentucky's largest horse farms, the Louisville neighborhood of Indian Hills offers a natural beauty that has resonated over time. “Indian Hills is known for being a very beautiful neighborhood,” says Realtor Sandy Gulick, a Louisville native with almost 40 years of real estate experience. “Residents are friendly, and everyone takes care of their homes. It’s a wonderful nook between River Road and US 42.”

Traditional styles with lush front yards
East or west, the homes of Indian Hills are surrounded by vast forests and rolling hills — and streetscapes that honor the setting. Houses reflecting the grandeur of Colonial Revival styling sit comfortably along the neighborhood’s winding roads. Homes have spacious, well-maintained yards that complement the environment, and the shade of established trees invites a leisurely stroll. “Indian Hills has well-built, traditional-style homes that are about 50 to 60 years old,” Gulick says. “Most are situated on larger lots.” Though the median price for real estate hovers around $670,000, prices range considerably; a brownstone townhouse may start at $440,000, while a four-bedroom Tudor-inspired cottage on half an acre can fetch over $1 million.

Abundant recreation along the Ohio River
“Parks are all over the place,” notes Gulick. At Thurman-Hutchins Park, residents relish the soccer and baseball fields or head to the fishing pier or walking trail. The larger Carrie Gaulbert Cox Park boasts more than 50 acres with scenic views of the Ohio River. More recreational opportunities await active residents nearby. By land, the Louisville Country Club has an 18-hole golf course, as well as swimming, pickleball and tennis. By water, the Louisville Boat Club — one of the nation’s oldest — is a sailor’s destination that also includes indoor and outdoor sports facilities.

Just outside Indian Hills, some tasty local flavor is ready for sampling. “There are some great local restaurants and small shops very close to the neighborhood,” Gulick notes. At Mesh, the grilled salmon and white cheddar bacon burger offer refined comfort. At River House Restaurant and Raw Bar, hot and cold seafood is the star, along with plenty of options for land-dwelling appetites. At Holiday Manor Shopping Center at the nearby crossroads of Brownsboro Road and US Route 42, residents can find grocery stores like Kroger, The Fresh Market and Paul’s Fruit Market to stock up on all things produce and pantry.
