Graysville offers rural living close to Chattanooga
For those seeking a serene, rural setting with proximity to Chattanooga, Graysville’s the clear choice. “You are right at the Tennessee-Georgia border. It’s really close to Chattanooga, but there’s no traffic,” says Frank Trimble, a Realtor with the Trimble Homes Team at Keller Williams Realty. “It’s a quieter place.”
Traditional home styles for under $400,000
Located 15 miles from downtown Chattanooga in northwest Georgia, those looking to move to Graysville will primarily find homes in traditional styles, such as brick ranch houses and Cape Cods with roof-top dormer windows. They were largely built from the 1950s to the 1990s and rest on sizeable lots of at least a half-acre with mature oak and maple trees that are common to the area. However, there’s also a smattering of new construction to choose from. “Some of these homes have really nice views of the mountain range,” Trimble says. “Depending on where you are, you can see Lookout Mountain.” The average list price is $315,000 and homes typically sell within 30 days. “The housing cost is a little bit lower there. The homes are under $400,000,” Trimble says. “If homes are priced right, they’ll sell quickly. If they aren’t priced right, it takes weeks.”
Award-winning marching band at Heritage High
Public school students here may attend Graysville elementary, Ringgold middle and Heritage high. The elementary and high schools both earn overall grades of B-plus, while the middle school scores an A-minus, according to Niche. Home of the Generals, the high school boasts a state-championship winning marching band.
Neighborhood parks, museums close by
Graysville is partially bordered by the South Chickamauga Creek. From the Graysville Pedestrian Bridge on Graysville Rd., you can launch your canoe or kayak and go for a paddle, fish for small-mouth bass, or cool off in the water during the summer months. Less than 5 miles away, there’s Camp Jordon Park and Heritage Dog Park. Camp Jordon features an 18-hole disc golf course, a 2-mile paved walking track, two beach volleyball courts, a ropes course and a zipline. And Heritage Dog Park hosts fenced-in dog areas for both larger and smaller dogs to run free, as well as water fountains and workout equipment for your pooch. For a wider variety of entertainment options, locals typically head to downtown Chattanooga. At the Tennessee Aquarium, you can pet stingrays or walk through the indoor butterfly garden that’s home to more than 1,000 butterflies. The children’s Creative Discovery Museum offers future veterinarians and anthropologists the opportunity to tend to stuffed dogs and cats in the “Doc McStuffins” office or dig in the sandpit for “dinosaur bones.” “Graysville is a great place for anyone who's looking for tranquility,” Trimble says.
Chains and local restaurants
Graysville residents have access to regionally and nationally known chains such as Food City grocery store and Dollar General. For a taste of something local, try Thatcher’s BBQ and Grill, where you can expect heaping portions and whimsical dishes, such as the Porky Bucket. For the uninitiated, it’s a tray of tater tots slathered with melted cheese, smoked chopped pork and barbecue sauce. “If you’re looking for more upscale dining you’re going to go to Chattanooga,” Trimble says.
GreatSchools:
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
