Chatham Arch is in the middle of "all the action"

Chatham Arch is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Indianapolis, with origins that go back to the 19th century. One of the biggest appeals of living in Chatham Arch is its quick access to Massachusetts Avenue. “This location cannot be beaten if you want to be in the middle of all the action in Downtown Indy and Mass Ave,” says Susan Forrest, Realtor with United Real Estate Indianapolis.

Houses include mix of detached homes and condos

Residents of Chatham Arch live in a mixture of detached homes and condos. The original Phoenix Theatre now houses three luxury condos. Originally built in 1907, many churches operated in this building over the years before the Phoenix Theatre called this building home. This history is apparent through the architectural characteristics, like the decorative arched windows. A three-bedroom and two-and-a-half-bath condo in this renovated building goes for $1,145,000. A classic 1874 Italianate home with five bedrooms and four baths goes for $1,175,000. There are also small bungalows that were built around the early 1900s that still exist today. A two-bedroom and two-bath bungalow is estimated to be around $482,000. The median listing price for homes in Chatham Arch is $445,000, with prices ranging from $230,000 to $1,600,000.

Students may attend Washington Irving and Crispus Attucks schools

Students living in Chatham Arch attend Washington Irving School and Crispus Attucks Medical Magnet High, which has an A rating on Niche.com for diversity. Students at Crispus Attucks can participate in one of the Academies & Pathways, which includes computer science and health sciences.

Neighborhood is close to University Park and American Legion Mall

For recreation, University Park is about a 13-minute walk away from the neighborhood. This park features the Depew Fountain. Visitors may marvel at its craftmanship and depiction of eight children dancing as a woman plays cymbals above them. The American Legion Mall is minutes away from University Park. This mall serves as a memorial for those who fought in World War II and the Korean and Vietnam Wars.

Dining scene has Latin cuisine and seafood

For entertainment and dining, residents can head to Mass Ave. Chatterbox Jazz Club offers an evening hangout. This dive bar is famous for having jazz acts every night and walls decorated with photos, postcards, stickers and sketches. Patrons may order the signature hot toddy, which is made with lemon slices and cinnamon. Salt on Mass serves freshly caught seafood in a modern dining room. Options there include grilled salmon or mahi mahi. For pasta, there's the Lobster Mac & Cheese, which is made with Maine lobster, cheese sauce, bacon and gruyere. Livery is housed in a building from the 1890s that once was a horse stable. The restaurant specializes in Latin cuisine, and patrons may order empanadas or tacos. They may also opt for a taco salad made with beef, Chihuahua cheese, tortilla chips, salsa, black beans and other vegetables. For entertainment, there is the District Theatre, known for its intimate theatre experience and diverse performances.

Indianapolis Cultural Trail goes to local attractions

The Indianapolis Cultural Trail makes it easy for residents to access some of Indianapolis’ signature attractions and neighborhoods. This includes Indiana Avenue, White River State Park, the shops and restaurants of Mass Avenue, Market East, Fountain Square and the Wholesale District that has the Colts’ Lucas Oil Stadium. In Chatham Arch, the excitement of downtown Indianapolis is never too far away.
