Eastside is an established neighborhood with suburban appeal
The Eastside is an established neighborhood in a great location, with charming all-brick homes and a suburban appeal. "It is primarily residential with a great proximity to downtown Indianapolis and the ability to get to most destinations within the city in 20-25 minutes," says Susan Forrest, Realtor with United Real Estate Indianapolis.
Neighborhood has many ranch-style homes and a few Tudors
Homes within Eastside are mostly ranch-style homes built in the mid-20th century. There are also Tudor-style homes sprinkled throughout the neighborhood. A refurbished ranch-style home features more of an open-floor concept, new countertops and cabinetry with three bedrooms and one bath. On 1474 North Leland Avenue, for example, a brick Tudor stands out with its ornamental door and storybook appeal. Prospective buyers can expect three bedrooms, two and a half baths, an updated kitchen and bathrooms and a finished basement when looking at similar homes within the neighborhood. Lawns are manicured and residents take pride in the curb appeal of their homes. The median sale price for homes in Eastside is $150,000.
Residents are minutes from multiple parks, aquatic center and golf
Eastside residents live only a few minutes from a few notable parks and a golf course. Brookside Park is a 108-acre community park that features a disc golf course, playground and the Brookside Park Aquatic Center, which includes a newly renovated swimming pool that features large slides and other spray features. Spades Park sits at the western edge of Brookside Park. It is the site of the Feast of Lanterns, where residents enjoy an outdoor music festival with food trucks, a beer and wine garden and artisans. All of this happens under a bright assortment of lanterns. Ellenberger Park features a swimming pool, fields for baseball and football, tennis courts and a walking trail. Residents can't help but enjoy the beautiful oranges and yellows of the trees during autumn. The private Pleasant Run Golf Course sits south of the neighborhood. Since 1922, golfers have used this course to test their golfing skills. The course features 18 holes. The mature trees provides shading on the rolling greens.
Dining options include comfort foods and Mexican fare
For eating, there are a few notable staples. Since 1960, Indianapolis diner Steer-In has served home-cooked meals to Eastside residents. The Twin Steer Burger has been a long-running staple of the diner. It is made with two beef patties, cheese, their signature sauce, lettuce and pickle, all on a decker bun. From mashed potatoes to French fries and mac and cheese, the sides are varied. Neighbors may go to Hilltop Tavern to catch up over a couple of beers and wings. Wednesday is Sloppy Wednesday, known for its offering of the homemade Sloppy Joe. The bar also hosts local bands on weekends. Chilangos serves authentic Mexican fare to the Eastside. Locals rave about their al poster tacos. For groceries, residents are only a few minutes away from the Kroger on East 10th Street.
Students may explore career paths through STEM, law and media
Students living in the Eastside neighborhood attend Anna Brochhausen Elementary, Arlington Middle and Arsenal Tech High. Students at Arsenal Tech are challenged to think about how to change the world through a variety of career paths like, STEM, law, and media, on its historic 76-acre campus.
Downtown Indianapolis is 11 minutes away
Eastside residents are less than 15 minutes from Fort Harrison State Park and 11 minutes from downtown Indianapolis.
