South Indianapolis suburb located in coveted school district
In the older areas of Linden Wood, mature trees tower over midcentury homes, each with its own unique style. Like the custom homes, each school, park and shop offers something special to this Indianapolis neighborhood. It’s situated 8 miles south of downtown in the coveted Perry Township, with a school district that Niche ranks as the third best in Marion County. "Perry Township continues to be a strong area of Indianapolis because of the schools," says John Peoni, associate broker with Berkshire Hathaway. While it's mostly residential, local grocers offer bushels of fresh fruits and veggies, while nearby parks offer fun activities like indoor ice skating. Thanks to nearby roadways, it's easy to get downtown Indianapolis and the popular Greenwood Park Mall.

Unique custom homes from the '60s and '70s
Linden Wood has a collection of newer and older subdivisions. Ranch-style homes and split-level homes dominate the housing stock. Many date back to the '60s and '70s. Variation is a selling point in older neighborhoods like Meridian Woods Park. "The houses don't all look alike because they were custom-built, whereas in a newer neighborhood, you might keep seeing the same house," Peoni says. The Cobblestone area has new traditional homes built between 2000 and 2024, with brick and vinyl exteriors and two-car garages. Neatly manicured front lawns are often large enough to spread out a picnic blanket. In some areas, mature trees shade entire yards. The occasional flower bed adds a pop of color. Prices start at around $160,000 for homes around 1,100 square feet. Prices can reach $530,000 for homes around 3,500 square feet.
