Renaissance Place
Suburban Neighborhood in Indianapolis, Indiana
Marion County 46202, 46204
1980s townhouses and 21st-century condos
Other than a small pocket of 19th-century Queen Anne houses near the corner of East Street and Walnut Street, apartments, townhouses and condos are the norm throughout the neighborhood. Townhouses, most of which were built in the 1980s, range between $300,000 and $365,000. Condos in the neighborhood were built in the 2000s and sell for between $400,000 and $750,000. Nearly three-quarters of Renaissance Place residents live in apartments.Green space next door in American Legion Mall and Indiana War Memorial
There are no parks in Renaissance Place. Chatham Commons is a pocket park just outside the neighborhood in neighboring Chatham-Arch. Two blocks to the west, the American Legion Mall sprawls across multiple blocks from the Indianapolis Public Library to the Indiana War Memorial and Museum. The three-floor military history museum also features a shrine room dedicated to Indiana's World War I soldiers. South of the War Memorial, Depew Memorial Fountain is the centerpiece of University Park.Center for Inquiry School 2 at center of neighborhood
Center for Inquiry School No. 2 is a grade school in the heart of Renaissance Place. An International Baccalaureate school serving kindergarten through fifth grade, Center for Inquiry earns a B-minus rating on Niche. Middle schoolers can attend C-minus-rated Longfellow Middle. Three IPS high schools are within a mile of Renaissance Place – A-plus-rated Herron High, C-plus-rated Crispus Attucks High, and C-rated Arsenal Tech High.Musical and theatre events at distinctive Old National Centre
The Old National Centre, formerly known as the Murat Shrine Temple, is one of Indy’s premier theatre and music venues. Moorish-inspired architecture makes it one of the city’s most distinctive buildings. “The building has personality,” says Indianapolis resident Alec Toombs. There are three theatres in the Old National Centre — Murat Theatre, a 2,500-seat auditorium, The Egyptian Room, a 2,000-person concert hall, and the more intimate Deluxe room. Major musical acts looking to play a smaller venue than Gainbridge Fieldhouse frequently make the Murat or The Egyptian Room their Indianapolis concert stop.I-65 and I-70 converge nearby
Renaissance Place is minutes from the junction of Interstates 65 and 70. I-65 heads northwest to Chicago and southeast to Louisville, and I-70 heads west to Terre Haute and east to Columbus, Ohio. The neighborhood itself is easy to get around, with a 93 of 100 Walk Score and 97 of 100 Bike Score. There are also multiple IndyGo bus routes with stops in the neighborhood.Hip nightlife and trendy cuisine on Mass Ave
Massachusetts Avenue, simply known as “Mass Ave” locally, cuts through the southeast corner of Renaissance Place. Mass Ave has developed into one of the premier dining and nightlife corridors in Indianapolis over the past decade. It’s plausible to eat dinner at a new restaurant each night in a month. “I like to try new places along Mass Ave,” says area resident Simon Kuntz. “In particular, FortyFive Degrees sushi bar has a patio that’s just a great spot on a 70-degree day to have dinner.” Union 50, a gastropub located in a former union hall, features a spacious patio and hosts live music throughout the week. Just south of the neighborhood, The Rathskeller is a German beer hall that’s operated since 1894. Whole Foods and Needler’s Fresh Market each have locations within walking distance.Noise a regular factor in neighborhood life
This can be one of Indy’s noisiest neighborhoods. In addition to the nearby interstate highways and a vibrant nightlife, the Indianapolis Fire Department’s Station 7 is based in the neighborhood. The CAP Index, which measures crime, gives Renaissance Place a 10 out of 10.
