Eagles fly over Eagle Creek Park
Located just across Interstate 65, Eagle Creek Park is an outdoor haven with more than 1,400 acres of water and 3,900 acres of land. It's home to the Go Ape Adventure Park, featuring a 305-foot zipline and an obstacle course with 41-foot platforms in the treetops. Hikers can pick from woodland trails between 1 and 7 miles. Plus there's swimming, kayaking and rowing on the Eagle Creek Reservoir. With permissible boats capped at ten horsepower, the reservoir offers calmer water for fishing. It's not uncommon to sight bald eagles perched in the treetops or catching fish on the reservoir.Midcentury ranches and custom builds
Traders Point has a sprawling layout divided into several subdivions. Here, single-family homes sit on quiet street with lots of tree cover. Architecture includes ranch-style properties from the '50s and '60s and custom homes from the '90s and '00s. These often have a Tudor-inspired look with brick and steep roof gables. Single-family homes average around 3,300 square feet, with large plots of land to match, including backyards with decks for entertaining. Front yards are large and well kept, with enough room for a decorative gardenscape. "A lot of people shop based on the school district, but if I have empty nesters, I'll push them over into north Marion County because there are a lot of nice, older custom homes," says Jerry Hanna, a Broker with Highgarden Real Estate. Below 5,000 square feet, homes can range between $300,000 and $715,000. Some of the neighborhood's largest homes can range between $900,000 and $1.2 million. There are also condo developments on the neighborhood's north and south sides, with properties ranging from $160,000 to $230,000.Farm-to-table food at local creamery
Traders Point Creamery is a farm-to-table restaurant and dairy bar within the neighborhood. Set inside a 19th-century barn with a rustic wood interior, it's known for classic American fare, such as grass-fed filet mignon and old-fashioned ice cream floats.Traders Point shopping mall is just east of the neighborhood. Major retailers and restaurants cover shopping and dining. Creatives might explore Michaels, while the sports-minded can shop at Dick's. There's also a 12-screen AMC Traders Point cinema.
Events at Traders Point Creamery and Eagle Creek Park
Traders Point Creamery hosts Faire at the Farm, where attendees can enjoy food and drinks while shopping from local vendors and artisans. Eagle Creek Park is another nearby venue for events, including the annual concert series from June through August, featuring regional jazz and folk artists. Youngsters aged 4 to 14 can participate in the children's Fishing Derby each June at Lily Lake in the park.Multiple routes to downtown Indy
Those who work downtown have options for driving, biking and public transit. I-65, which borders the neighborhood's west side, provides a direct route for drivers. "A lot of people want to be on the west side of Indianapolis because it's an easier commute downtown," Hanna says. Lafayette Road has a dedicated bike lane running through Traders Point and continuing to downtown Indy. For public transit, locals may also take the number 37 bus.Preparing for the future at Pike High
