Martin County’s growth pushes residents and development to Indiantown

The number of homes in Indiantown is on track to nearly double as homebuilders construct new houses in Terra Lago, a development underway in the Florida village. Families have already moved into model homes in the community, where nearly 2,500 houses and townhomes are expected to be built in the coming years. Terra Lago is the most obvious sign that growth is coming to the village of less than 7,000 people. Upticks in population and home prices in cities on the coastal side of Martin County are pushing people farther inland toward communities like Indiantown, says Ana Farias, owner and broker of Red Properties and an Indiantown resident. The village also broke ground on a new wastewater treatment plant in 2025, beefing up the community’s ability to handle thousands of new homes and residents.

New single-family houses coming to a market low on inventory

Ryan Homes and Meritage Homes are selling Craftsman- and Colonial-inspired houses they’re building in Terra Lago. Farias says many house hunters prefer Indiantown’s homes built in the ‘80s and earlier, which typically lack the HOA fees and restrictions that come with new builds. However, older properties often come with only one bathroom, a hangup for many buyers, and they’re not as plentiful, she adds. “There are bidding wars for listings because there’s not much available to sell.” Single-family houses typically sell between $315,000 and $600,000. New-construction homes have recently sold from $315,000 to $425,000. A 55-plus mobile home community borders Indianwood Golf Club; those prices vary from $10,000 to $110,000.

School options include Martin County School District, Indiantown High

Students stay in Indiantown if they attend Warfield Elementary, which is scored a C by Niche, or C-plus-rated Indiantown Middle. Children at Indiantown Middle can take lab-based courses that explore careers in robotics, hospitality and culinary arts. Older students may attend South Fork High, which receives an A-minus. Indiantown High School opened in 2022. Students can apply to the charter school in February of the previous school year. Indiantown High’s career technical education courses focus on fields such as medical technology and agricultural sciences technology. Niche has not graded the school.

Fishing, equestrian and a rodeo next to the St. Lucie Canal

At Timer Powers Park, boaters can launch into the St. Lucie Canal and anglers can cast into the canal from a pier. There’s a playground on land, as well as a county-run equestrian arena. Anyone can take their horse there during the arena’s open ride hours. The facility also hosts the Indiantown Rodeo, an annual tradition for more than 75 years. Boaters can also use Indiantown Marina to access St. Lucie Canal, which connects to Lake Okeechobee and the waterways that extend westward from the lake. “From there, you can get to the Gulf,” Farias says. Indianwood Golf Club’s 18-hole golf course is open to the public.
Locals can work out and swim at the Louis Dreyfus Citrus Branch of the YMCA. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Martin County runs the Bill & Barbara Whitman Club, where kids from kindergarten to 12th grade can play soccer and volleyball, join art classes and receive tutoring.

Stores and Guatemalan cuisine along state Road 710

Local businesses and chains stand along Florida state Road 710, including Taqueria Solavino taco truck and La Mexicana Restaurante. Shoppers may stop off the highway at Ace Hardware, Tractor Supply Co. and Hitchcock’s Markets, a Florida-based grocery chain. Big-box stores such as Walmart and Lowe’s Home Improvement line U.S. Route 1 in Stuart, about 20 miles away.
More than a dozen churches meet around town. At several local churches, including Iglesia De Cristo La Luz Del Mundo and Family Worship Center, pastors deliver sermons in Spanish.

Highways, buses connect to Stuart, Port St. Lucie and West Palm Beach

Indiantown is at the intersection of state roads 710 and 76; it’s a 30-mile drive to Port St. Lucie and a 40-mile trip to West Palm Beach. Martin County’s public bus, called Marty, makes multiple stops in Indiantown, taking riders to Martin South Hospital in Stuart. Roughly 40 miles from Indiantown, airlines at Palm Beach International Airport fly directly to more than 15 destinations, including Montreal and Marsh Harbour, Bahamas.

GreatSchools: The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
