Inez offers scenic surroundings and large properties
From the outside, the small Jackson County community of Inez is pretty quiet. “There’s a Dollar General and a Shell station and not much else,” laughs Melissa Orr, a Realtor with The Orr Group who sells throughout South-Central Texas. “But people like it there because of all the trees and the higher-end homes.” Along with its large properties and picturesque surroundings, Inez offers its roughly 2,300 residents highly-rated schools and proximity to the state’s coastline.
Tree-filled lots feature ranch and New Traditional styles
Inez’s streets are dotted with ranch-style, manufactured and New Traditional style houses, often sitting on sprawling lots. Lawns are grassy and homes are usually flanked by tall, mature trees. Some homes have enough space for hobby farms or personal ranches. Prices typically range from about $300,000 to about $650,000. Land is also available at a wide range of acreage, from a half-acre to hundreds, priced between $80,000 and $500,000.
Industrial ISD earns top marks and draws families
Industrial Independent School District serves the city, offers inter-district transfers and has an A rating on Niche. Kids attend Industrial Elementary School West or Industrial Elementary School East, Industrial Junior High and Industrial High. The elementary and junior high schools have A ratings, and the high school has an A-minus. Along with it’s a rating, Industrial ISD earned an A from the Texas Education Agency for accountability and school progress in April 2025. The award was based on the district's commitment to educational excellence. “The schools are definitely a big draw to the area,” Orr says.
Bennett Park and Magnolia Beach are nearby outdoor escapes
There are no public green spaces, but Bennett Park is not far from the city’s southeast side. Bennett Park is a tucked away spot surrounded by mature trees and offers walking trails, picnic tables, camping and fishing. Inez RecPlex offers indoor recreation including strength and conditioning classes, tumbling classes and after-school programming for kids. Inez is about 50 miles from Magnolia Beach, a popular spot for camping and daytrips where visitors enjoy the sandy coastline and gentle waves.
Limited shopping and dining but more options in Victoria
Inez is mostly residential, though there is a Dollar General location for shopping. A handful of services, local business and houses of worship are near Lloyd Bentson Highway, the city’s main thoroughfare. The local restaurant is The Bomb Diggity, a local steakhouse and bar that serves a mix of dishes including wings, salads, steaks and fish. Residents head to nearby Victoria, about 16 miles away, for more shopping, dining and entertainment options. DeTar Hospital Navarro and Citizens Medical Center, the closest hospitals, are also in Victoria.
Residents head to Victoria for festivals and fun
Residents often head to Victoria for its many festivities. A popular event there is Tejas Fest, which takes place in October and offers Tejano and Texas Country music, food vendors, a car show and a petting zoo.
Lloyd Bentson Highway connects Inez to nearby cities
Due to the city’s lack of public transportation, residents get around by car. Lloyd Bentson Highway, also known as U.S. Route 59, runs through the city and connects to highways traveling to Victoria, Edna and other communities. The closest airport is Victoria Regional, which offers regular flights to Houston.
Tornadoes are rare but remain a weather concern
Inez is vulnerable to tornadoes, though they don’t occur often. In the summer, temperatures reach the high 90s and can feel hotter due to humidity.
