Morton. “You are close to hospitals, shopping and schools.” Inverness Highlands South is also close to a plethora of recreation. “It’s for outdoor enthusiasts,” Callahan says. The area’s proximity to Florida State Road 44 and U.S. Route 41, its quality school system and nearby dining add to the neighborhood’s appeal.

Along the tree-covered streets of Inverness Highlands South are ranch-style and newer-build contemporary homes on an average of a quarter of an acre of land. These homes have sold for between $100,000 and $480,000. “They are moving quickly if they are priced correctly,” Callahan says. Sidewalks are not typical in the neighborhood, so residents rely on cars to get around.

Citrus County Schools, with 16 AP courses offered at Citrus High

Students in Inverness Highlands South are assigned to attend Citrus County Schools. For pre-kindergarten through fifth grade, children attend Pleasant Grove Elementary School, which earns a B grade from Niche. Burgers and wings by Henderson Lake at Cove Resort and Pub

Cove Resort and Pub is 6 miles from the Inverness Highlands South by Henderson Lake. “It has burgers and wings and is right on the water,” Callahan says. “You can pull your boat up from the lake. The Cove has a sizable drink menu, including beer flights. Oscar Penns is an upscale restaurant 3 miles north of the neighborhood that serves seafood, sushi and steak. “It’s on the higher end, dress up for dinner kind of thing,” says Nadeene Horak, a Realtor with Sail Home Realty. “It’s in a very old house; people say it's haunted.” Right down the street from Oscar Penns is Stumpknockers Restaurant, which serves seafood, steak and other American favorites. “They are known for their burgers,” Horak says. There is a Publix and a Winn-Dixie just north of the neighborhood for grocery shopping.

From the Third Friday Cruise-In to the Citrus County Fair

“Every third Friday of each month, we have Cruise-In,” says Callahan, a resident of Inverness. The Third Friday Cruise-In is put on by the Citrus Vettes & Camaros Car Club and happens in Historic Downtown Inverness. People from all over bring their classic cars to show off. Just east of the neighborhood is also the Citrus County Fairgrounds, which hosts the annual Citrus County Fair every March. The fair includes rides, food and market vendors, livestock and a flea market.
