The relaxed suburb of Arlingwood
The quiet suburb of Arlingwood sits minutes from Downtown Jacksonville, as well as nature reserves and retail areas. "This area is unique and different from the rest of Jacksonville. The family-oriented atmosphere is what sets Arlington apart. We have got parks, ice cream parlors and schools," says Realtor Alton McGriff with Fathom Realty, a native of Jacksonville. This type of atmosphere, along with the prices of its homes and centralized location, draws buyers to the community.

Ranch-style homes, condos and townhouses
Arlingwood offers a mix of single-family homes and condo communities for a variety of budgets. Most residences sit on tidy yards on classic gridded suburban roads. There are mostly traditional brick, ranch-style houses with updated interiors, with prices between $150,000 and $400,000. Occasional new construction may be priced between $400,000 and $420,000. Condo and townhouse prices often range from $165,000 for a unit in an established community to $330,000 for new construction.
Traditional, single-story homes from the 1960s dominate the neighborhood.

Outdoor time at Arlingwood Park and Tree Hill Nature Center
The neighborhood gets its name from its community green space, Arlingwood Park, which started development in 1953. The park offers tennis courts, a playground and picnic areas that are popular for birthday celebrations and family gatherings. Nearby, Tree Hill Nature Center offers a surprising oasis in the middle of the city. This large nature reserve has several miles of trails winding through lush forests and colorful gardens. It's also a sanctuary for dozens of animals, including pygmy goats, opossums, gators, snakes, birds and butterflies. A natural history museum offers visitors a chance to cool off while they explore the area's flora and fauna.

Shop local on Merrill Road
One of the neighborhood's biggest draws is that it's close to so much of Jacksonville's amenities, according to McGriff. "It's 10 minutes from the airport and beaches and just five minutes from downtown. You're very central so that you can get to places quicker," McGriff says. Merrill Road, which runs north of Arlingwood, has small, locally owned businesses and commercial retailers. A Walmart Neighborhood Market and a Publix are also available for grocery shopping. Restaurants in the area include Robert's Seafood & Hot to Go Kitchen, which has been serving the Jacksonville area since 1985. The eatery offers everything from popcorn shrimp and snapper filet to hot wings and snow crab. Arlingwood is 3 miles from Regency Square Mall, which has retail chains, department stores and a movie theater. Less than 10 miles away, St. John's Town Center is a more recently built outdoor shopping mall. There are upscale retail shops, big box stores like Costco and Target and grocery stores like Publix and Sprouts Organic Market. Residents can head downtown to the 15,000-seat multi-purpose VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena or The Florida Theatre for concerts, plays and sporting events.

Love my neighborhood. Quiet and peaceful. Neighbors are polite and helpful. The only complaint I would have is people speeding.

Though my neighborhood is peaceful, the city I live in is not as much. I live in Jacksonville, Florida, which has one of the highest crime rates in America. But still, I've never encountered, witnessed or been near a crime that's happened near my location.

I see many people walking or running when I walk as well as walking their pets. People seem to be pretty active in this area.
