A midcentury community in Northwest Jacksonville
Inspired by the woodland home of the fictional outlaw Robin Hood, Sherwood Forest has appropriately named streets inspired by the old English tale. Littlejohn Road, Chivalry Drive, Castle Boulevard and Arrowsmith Road are a few whimsical names of the residential roadways. Sherwood is a midcentury neighborhood platted in the early 1900s but developed in the 1960s to 1970s. To the east is the Osceola Forest section of the community, with more established homes, time-honored restaurants and riverfront views. "Sherwood Forest is a bit more modern than the neighboring Osceola Forest. The area is in a great location. There are plenty of nearby resources, highways and nice-sized lots. The spacious yards are another reason people will often choose to live here," says George Barnes, the broker of George A. Barnes Realty.

Homes with backyard river views and new constructions
Trout River Boulevard has some of the most established properties in Sherwood Forest. "Some families tend to prefer the midcentury charm of these homes and the spacious yards. Children can play outside, or you can grill in the nice weather," Barnes says. A few of these riverfront homes have backyard docks that provide access to the marshes. On average, homes enter the market between $150,000 to $300,000. Buyers can find modest-sized homes from the last five years peppered among more established residences, such as inside Timber Oak subdivision, costing between $225,000 to $325,000. "The area is on the rise," says Realtor Ardel Jones with Dream Big Realty of Jax LLC. "A buyer will be able to move here and purchase a home for less money that has the potential to be worth more in the future."

Miller Regional Park, spread across 125 acres, features a playground, walking paths and the Bob Hayes Sports Complex, often used for youth athletics.

There is not an abundance of stores around. there is one big store which is Winn-Dixie, several family dollars and a few convenience stores. The stores are not bad, but could be better.
