A suburban community offering short walks to the heart of Johnson City
West Davis Park’s longstanding streets offer residents immediate access to everything downtown Johnson City has to offer, just one block away. The community comprises a quiet residential landscape, allowing calm away from the city’s hubbub while granting walking access to annual events like Friday’s After 5 and the Johnson City Farmers Market. Home to the community-oriented Carver Park, as well as shopping opportunities to the north and dining options to the south, residents won’t have to travel more than 2 miles to find a sense of place or reach daily amenities.
Turkish-Greek eats on the patio at Red Meze
Neighboring downtown Johnson City offers an array of eateries to try out, including Red Meze on Buffalo Street. On any given day, patrons can be seen on the patio enjoying Turkish-Greek dishes like Moussaka, Dolma and Tabouleh. Southern Craft BBQ on Spring Street, a go-to spot in the city, serves up traditional barbeque and craft beer from its on-site microbrewery. Amy Versaw, a local Realtor with Keller Williams – Carter Property Group, mentions that downtown does not have a robust selection of shopping opportunities. “However, our mall is so successful because our stores are accessible for people living in the area,” Versaw says about The Mall at Johnson City on North Roan Street 2 miles north. Meanwhile, residents don’t have to leave the neighborhood for stops at United Grocery Outlet, which sits along the same street at the heart of the community.

West Daivs Park's 20th-century homes
West Davis Park is bound by West Main Street to the south and Heritage Baptist Church on its northwestern side. Between are hilly residential streets that reveal the community’s age through the high-reaching canopies of trees running parallel and the lived-in narrow sidewalks that sit beneath. Throughout its history, the neighborhood’s architectural styles have evolved from the early 20th century through the 1950s, from Craftsman and traditional styles to bungalow and ranch-style homes. Many feature wide front porches, while almost all have alleyways running behind backyards for parking. Potential homebuyers can expect a price range from $150,000 to $550,000, depending on size and condition.

Friday night music and beer in the park
From late May through July, music radiates from King Commons Park every Friday night as part of the city’s Friday’s After 5 concert series. A one-block walk southeast, the free event encourages locals to bring a blanket or lawn chair to ring in the weekend with concerts from local and regional artists. “You can bring your dog, grab a beer and enjoy the music,” Versaw says. “The kids get to run around, and even when it’s busy, it doesn’t feel crowded.” The Johnson City Farmers Market sits two blocks south of the park, where vendors offer fresh produce and goods from early May through October.
Running into neighbors at the community garden
Carver Park on West Watauga Avenue is a focal point for the community. Whether tending to the vegetables in the Carver Community Garden or letting little ones cool off atop the splash pad, visitors will likely run into others making afternoon strolls to the park. Alongside its traditional playset and basketball courts, the Carver Recreation Center hosts several multicultural events throughout the year and an afterschool program offering tutoring and enrichment activities.
