For those who want a slower pace of life, a home in Jones Creek may be just the place for you. While living in Jones Creek, you can be isolated but not far away from activity. “You’re 20 minutes from the beaches of the Gulf of Mexico at Surfside Beach,” says Dena Pate, a Realtor at Coldwell Banker Ultimate. “You’re also living in a rural area where you could have your house on a bigger plot of land.”

While most of the homes in Jones Creek are older, dating to the 1960s and ‘70s, there are a few newer homes as well. The price range is usually between $150,000 and $300,000. A more recent home was built in 2006 with three bedrooms and two-and-a-half bathrooms. “I have sold a house under contract built in 1970, and it sold for $185,000, so the homes are less expensive than if you were buying in Lake Jackson, just 15 minutes to the north,” Pate says. A majority of the houses have between 1,000 and 2,000 square feet. For the homes that have more land, such as a three-bedroom ranch that sits on an acre and a half, the price is closer to $250,000. Ranch style is the prominent architectural design in Jones Creek.

Outside of the village of Jones Creek, there isn’t much development because the Justin Hurst Wildlife Management Area takes up a lot of the land. At over 10,000 acres, it's used to develop and manage habitats for wildlife species, particularly waterfowl. In the spring, they recruit 13 to 17-year-olds to become part of their Waterfowl Brigade, which is five days of hands-on conversation and leadership learning. The area is also popular for duck hunters in the fall. Just off Route 36 along Jones Creek Terminal Road, you'll find the start of the Live Oak Trail Loop, a half mile of paved trail through a wetland area, where you can see various wildlife and thick undergrowth.

All that outdoor activity is bound to make you hungry. Stop in Jones Creek for a bite at Taco Jalisco Mexican Grill on Route 36. They’re a bit different because they are open for breakfast, serving tasty treats like breakfast tacos and pancakes. Sometimes, there’s even live music on the weekends.

Children in the area attend schools in the Brazosport Independent School District, rated a B-plus on the Niche website, getting high marks in preparing high school kids for college. B-plus grades were given out for academics and the quality of teachers. Districtwide, the student-to-teacher ratio is 14-to-1. S.F. Austin Elementary School serves kindergarten through sixth-grade students and has a Niche grade of A-minus for teachers. You must cross the Brazos River for middle and high school to attend Freeport Intermediate School and Brazosport High School. Both schools have a student-to-teacher ratio of 12-to-1.

Jones Creek is the destination for those looking for a slower pace. “I had a client who moved to a house in Jones Creek because it was quieter than where she lived in Lake Jackson. Jones Creek also provided her further distance between herself and her neighbors,” Pate says. Many years ago, there wasn’t a direct route between Lake Jackson and Jones Creek. That was until Route 2004 was built and the bridge across the Brazos River.
