Justice is a small village with a lot of life

Justice sits about 30 miles outside of Chicago, although some residents do not consider that a far distance. “It’s a small town, but we are close to Chicago,” says Kelly Rosales, Realtor with Berkshire-Hathaway Home Services and President of the Justice Lions Club, which supports the community through volunteer work and participating in events such as the annual Trunk-or-Treat. To get to the city, residents only need to hop on the Orange Line. That said, there is much to do in Justice. The parks department manages four parks, including Gottwald Memorial Park, and runs year-round programs. Locals looking to be immersed in nature can explore the nearby Cooks County Reserves. Families do most of their shopping at Quarry Shopping Mall, and children start their education at Indian Springs School District 109, which receives a B-plus from Niche.

Homes, townhouses and condos in Justice

The streets of Justice are lined with decorated lawns that stretch to the pavement, many adorned with trees, bushes or gardens. “We’ve got starter homes and new construction,” Rosales says. This makes for various architectural styles, from mid-20th century ranch styles and Tudor Revivals to split-level houses and brick new traditional homes with arched entryways and oversized windows. Prices for a three-bedroom tend to fall between $250,000 and $325,000. Several condominiums and townhouses are also available in the neighborhood, many with two bedrooms. The condominiums can cost from $175,000 to $225,000, while townhouses can go for between $250,000 and $300,000.

Two school districts serve Justice

Justice students start at Indian Springs School District, completing kindergarten through sixth grade at Brodnicki Elementary School and seventh and eighth grade at Wilkins Jr. High School. Both schools receive a B from Niche. Because Indian Springs School District does not offer a secondary school, students can attend Argo Community High School, the only school in its district of the same name. Argo Community High, which earns an A-minus, offers three sequences of learning in their art department: a two-dimensional, three-dimensional and photography sequence. The school also offers more than 40 clubs, including the Maroon, the student-run newspaper, and a Chess Team that qualified for the state competition.

Pace bus connects with Orange Line

Interstate 294 borders the village and carries drivers into the rest of Illinois. Residents also rely on public transportation. Pace offers a bus route along West 79th Street that stops at the Chicago Midway International Airport, about 7 miles away, providing direct flights to 74 U.S. destinations and 11 international ones. The airport also houses the Midway Station, which allows people to access the Chicago Transit Authority Orange Line to get to the city.

Justice Park Department manages grounds and hosts programs

Residents of Justice can utilize the neighborhood’s several parks. At Gottwald Memorial, kids can swing and explore the playground before running around the grassy fields, while people can play a game of basketball at Veteran’s Park. “Our park district is something to look into,” Rosales says. Besides managing the parks, they host programs ranging from Senior Club Game Day to the Justice Park Department Soccer programs. Justice is also about 5 miles away from the Cranberry Slough Nature Preserve, which is part of the larger Forest Reserves of Cook County. “If you’re someone who loves nature, you can go camping, fishing and biking,” Rosales says.

Justice Annual Car Show draws in a crowd

While the village hosts several events throughout the year, the Annual Car Show is the most popular. “It brings out a lot of people,” Rosales says. Attendees can enjoy live music while exploring the vehicles on display. The proceeds go toward Holiday Gift Baskets, which the village gives to families who may be unable to afford presents. Other events include Trunk-or-Treat and Winter Wonderland.

The 294 Project is making travel easier

The Central Tri-State Tollway Project, which locals call the 294 Project, is widening the interstate and revitalizing old infrastructure to reduce congestion. “It’s opening up the area,” Rosales says. While construction is ongoing, with the expected completion being 2026, she noticed that there has already been some improvement in traffic in the village.
