Kaneville offers countryside views and highway connections
For those who appreciate the rolling hills and natural beauty of Illinois, Kaneville has several nature preserves in and around the village that its residents can explore, on top of the farmlands that make up the area. As a primarily rural village, Kaneville offers countryside views and a tightknit community within its center. US Interstate 88 cuts through the area, with Route 38 and Route 47 nearby to make it easy to travel to other places. “It’s a small-town community that’s conveniently located,” says Tom Vierig, a Managing Broker and Owner of Castle View Real Estate. “There’s a lot of shopping and entertainment just 15 minutes away.”
Since 1848, Kaneville United Methodist Church is the only church located within Kaneville, IL.

Forest preserves and wetlands offer scenic natural escapes
When you need a breath of fresh air, Kaneville has several nature preserves either in the village itself or surrounding it that its residents can explore. Almon Underwood Prairie Nature Preserve is currently undergoing some restoration efforts to bring back the fields and wetlands, but visitors can still admire the small gravel knolls along the landscape. Located along Perry Road, Lone Grove Forest Preserve is a woodland area of mature Oaks. The section of land that has Big Rock Creek cutting through has wetlands that come alive with wildflowers in the warmer months. Both areas have natural formations from thousands of years ago that visitors can still see today. Other nearby nature preserves include Grunwald Farms Forest Preserve, Blackberry Maples Forest Preserve, Sauer Prairie Kame Forest Preserve and Elburn Forest Preserve. For something a bit more recreational, Acquaviva Winery along Route 38 is an 85-acre estate vineyard where adults can enjoy a tasting bar and pizza bistro with a backdrop of the gorgeous Illinois landscape.

Main Street has stores, but Elburn and Sugar Grove expand options
While the village of Kaneville itself is relatively small, commercial businesses along Main Street can take care of any retail needs. Hill’s Country Store has everything from food essentials to slushies and is right across the street from the Kaneville Community Child Center. Kuiper’s Family Farm sells fresh produce, along with their family-friendly events. “They always have a lot going on in the spring through Fall,” Vierig says. For more shopping opportunities, residents will drive to other towns nearby. Roughly 6.5 miles north on Route 47, Elburn has a shopping center along its own Main Street that has a Jewel-Osco for groceries and a Walgreens for prescriptions. Get fresh cuts from Reams Meat Market and treat yourself to Alice’s Place Ice Cream afterward. There are tons of bars, breweries and restaurants in Downtown Elburn, including Knucklehead’s Tavern. Traveling 7 miles in the other direction, Sugar Grove also has a Jewel-Osco and other businesses like a veterinary clinic and hair salon. Sugar Grove Café is known for its savory breakfast skillets with hashbrowns and eggs on top.
