Historic sights and modern favorites in one place
Muncie blends a mix of pioneer life nostalgia and easy access to the KC metro in a community where history meets a modern flare. Muncie locals can visit the oldest home in Wyandotte County at Grinter Place Historic Site, eat at a regional favorite restaurant that was recently featured on a Netflix reality show, and catch a NASCAR race at the Kansas Speedway all within the same day. The community is removed from the metro, making the community quiet and filled with natural sights, but is well-connected to nearby highways, shopping and recreation whenever residents want some more excitement. “It’s a small-town atmosphere just outside Kansas City. It’s a difference between suburbia and urban living,” says Chad Chadwick, a sales professional with Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate.

Muncie is bordered by Interstates 70 and 435 and Highway 32, making it well-connected to the rest of the metro area and the state. Jones Bar-B-Q, as seen on Netflix
If there is anywhere in Muncie that draws tourists, it’s Jones Bar-B-Q. While the Kansas City staple has been loved by locals for decades, the eatery reached international fame after being featured on Season 3 of Netflix’s “Queer Eye.” The restaurant is located on Kaw Drive and is open every day until stock sells out, so visitors will want to stop by early for some ribs or sausage links coated in the signature sauce.
Kaw Fresh Market is next to Jones Bar-B-Q on Kaw Drive and sells groceries while serving street tacos and hot sandwiches out of the on-site kitchen. Residents can also travel 6 miles away to The Legends Outlets off Parallel Parkway, which has retail stores and larger grocery stores. “Muncie is just a great spot to go,” says Mary Beth Schwartz, a Keller Williams real estate consultant. “The Legends Outlets is just west, and there are other practical places nearby, like Sam’s Club or Walmart.”
