Northeast is a community that cares about each other
Northeast is a long-standing historic Kansas City, Kansas community. History lives at the Quindaro Ruins Overlook Structure and Quindaro Underground Railroad Museum, highlighting the area's past as an integral underground railroad stop. Facing challenges in recent years, "At one time, it had everything there, but it slowly turned into a food desert as things began to move out west and the people moved with it," says Realtor Taiasha Nichols of T Nick Real Estate Services, who has sold dozens of properties in KCK. "Now we have grocery stores, redevelopments, and many different, newer homes, so it's becoming something more." With several parks and proximity to employers, Northeast is on the rise.
Community groups are integral
Home to the Groundwork Northeast Revitalization Group, which works on building up the community focusing on four sovereignties: Economic, Environmental, Food, and Cultural Identity and Belonging, spearheaded by educational seminars, masterplan initiatives and nature revitalization projects like the NE KCK Heritage Trail.
Historic Northeast homes near parks
The downtown neighborhood sits next to Kaw Point, one of the resting spots of the famous explorer Lewis and Clark and a starting point for trailblazers heading West on the Santa Fe, Oregon and California trails. The architecture of Northeast is as diverse as its population. "It's a melting pot in that area," says Nichols. Ranch homes, Craftsman's and the classic Midwest Shirtwaist are popular styles. These historic homes are some of the oldest in the city, perched on grassy knolls with steps leading to front porches and sidewalks. Most homes usually range between a low $100,000 to just under $300,000.
