Cooley Highlands has small homes for budget-friendly price
Cooley Highlands’ sloping streets are populated by ranch-style homes, bungalows, craftsman cottages, and split levels, all of which were mainly built between the 1940s and 1970s. Most of the community’s smaller properties that are under or around 2,000 square feet are listed for between $200,000 to $300,000. “This is a great transition neighborhood for families. They get the ‘up north’ perks without the $250,000 to $350,000 price tag,” says Pat Grace, a Realtor with United Real Estate who specializes in property in North Kansas City.

Cooley Highlands is zoned within the well-loved North Kansas City Schools district, which earns an overall A from Niche. Students might attend Chouteau Elementary School and Northgate Middle School, which both have a B on Niche. North Kansas City High School – known as “Northtown” -- earns a B-plus on Niche. Niche also named Northtown the most diverse school in Missouri for its student body from a wide range of backgrounds. Cooley Highlands is in a prime location between three community parks and a large greenway. Cooley Park on Northeast Antioch Road and Sunset Park and Rock Creek Park, both on Northeast Rock Creek Drive, all have widespread green spaces, paved walking trails and playgrounds. On the eastern side of the community, locals can explore hiking paths through a large swath of preserved forest at the Buckeye Greenway off Highway 210. For a bit of indoor recreation, residents can go to the Kansas City North Community Center on Northeast Antioch Road for a full-sized gym, tennis courts, and even an auditorium and pottery studio.

Overseas treats at European Corner Store and Burek and Cake
Cooley Highlands is home to some unique local businesses, like the European Corner Store at the intersection of Antioch Road and Winn Road. Located inside a large Tudor-inspired house, the shop sells various imported European foods and drinks. The Burek and Cake bakery is next door in another Tudor house and sells fresh Bosnian pastries and cakes. Chouteau Crossings, which is off Chouteau Trafficway less than 2 miles, features a Sun Fresh Market and a Target for locals’ grocery needs.
The neighborhood is also less than 3 miles away from Harrah’s Kansas City on One Riverboat Drive, a casino and hotel complex on the banks of the Missouri River that hosts two restaurants, a bar, and a nightclub.

Cooley Highlands is situated near Highways 210 and 269, which both feed into Interstate 29. The interstate then runs directly into the heart of Kansas City. Downtown KC is just 8 miles away. Ride KC offers daily bus routes through the city and has stops along Northeast Chouteau Trafficway and Northeast Antioch Road. Cooley Highlands neighbors North Kansas City Hospital, one of the best medical care facilities on the northern side of the river. It is also 8 miles from Charles B. Wheeler Airport and 20 miles from Kansas City International Airport.
