Gracemor Elementary sits in the heard of the neighborhood
Students are served by the North Kansas City School District. Children can go to Gracemor Elementary School in the heart of the neighborhood before advancing to Eastgate 6th Grade Center and Maple Park Middle School — all earning grades of B-minus or higher from Niche. According to Kim Nakahodo, who serves as the Deputy City Administrator in North Kansas City, sixth grade centers are newer concept implemented to help smoothen the transition for children advancing from elementary to middle school. "The district made this thought of 'Let's carve off the sixth graders,' because you could have somebody who's under 5-foot, and then you could have somebody who's 5-foot with facial hair. The spectrum of what a sixth grader looks like is highly dynamic," Nakahodo says. "It's also a way for them to get to meet everybody else in their district. When you're in kindergarten through fifth grade, all you ever know is your little pocket of the world." Teens attend Winnetonka High School, which earns a B rating from Niche and offers an array of after-school activities, including the National Honor Society and Future Business Leaders of America.
