Life in Line Creek-Northern Heights is defined by its namesake natural feature. This north Kansas City neighborhood is surrounded by the 800-acre Line Creek Forest, which envelops residents in miles of scenic trailways and acres of unique parkland. An elementary school and community hub carry the same moniker, adding an element of pride to this tree-covered suburban enclave.

Rows of neo-eclectic homes from the late 1990s and early 2000s line the neighborhood’s cul-de-sacs. “The houses are a great size here, in terms of land size and how many rooms they have,” says Ron Henderson, a team lead and Realtor with Keller Williams. “Plus, they’re a bit newer than the midcentury house you usually get in the Northland.” These dwellings typically have four to five bedrooms, split-level or tri-level layouts and sit on quarter-to-half-acre lots. Find homes with classical columns, small front porches, shuttered windows and two-car garages. With their size and style variety, a home in Line Creek-Northern Heights costs anywhere between $350,000 and $500,000, a range higher than a Kansas City home’s average $250,000 selling price.

Residents can enjoy plenty of outdoor fun at the 145-acre Frank Vaydik Park spanning across the Line Creek Forest. Run around the playground, hit a home run at the baseball diamonds or cool off at the Line Creek Community Pool. A starting point for the 8-mile Line Creek Trail is also here. The pathway is shaded by mature oak and hickory trees and features views of the creek's rocky waterfall. Children will especially love the Kansas City Northern Railroad, a miniature train on a half-mile track available to ride every Saturday and Sunday. The land is also home to the Line Creek Community Center, where you can skate across the 34,000-square-foot indoor ice rink. Children and adults can take hockey and figure skating lessons or enjoy the 1-hour public free skate.

Children in Line Creek-Northern Heights attend Line Creek Elementary. During weekly library times, students can browse a plethora of books and learn to code on the computers. Then, students go to Walden Middle, and they can join the Green Team, an environmental group that beautifies the school and participates in other sustainability acts. Lastly, students can attend Park Hill High School, which has an A grade from Niche. Thanks to a partnership with The Metropolitan Community College, students can take various dual credit classes focused on math, engineering or computer science.
Students can also go to Clay-Platte Montessori from prekindergarten through high school. With a 10-acre campus situated along the Line Creek Forest, the school prioritizes outdoor learning. Students can wander the butterfly garden, hike the nature trails or play chess on the oversized outdoor board.

The Burlington Creek shopping center is less than 4 miles from Linden Creek-Northern Heights. Start your morning with a refreshing smoothie bowl from Pura Vida. Taste the tico bowl piled high with plantain chips, salty pumpkin seeds, fresh strawberries and a creamy white chocolate sauce. You can also enjoy Italian classics like chicken parmesan or spaghetti and meatballs at Dominic’s. Pick up groceries from Sprouts Farmers Market or Hy-Vee if you would rather make a meal at home. A quick 12-mile drive down U.S. Route 169 will also lead you to downtown Kansas City, where you can explore numerous entertainment districts. For instance, eat at the restaurants in Westport or shop the 15 blocks of commercial options at the Country Club Plaza.

With convenience to the city’s core and homes surrounding acres of beautifully wooded terrain, Line Creek-Northern Heights is a neighborhood combining untouched green space and suburban amenities.
