Quiet suburb appeals to first-time buyers and young parents

Meadowbrook Heights is a suburban neighborhood in north Kansas City that appeals to families and first-time home buyers. Located 15 miles downtown, Meadowbrook Heights provides a welcome retreat far enough away from the city bustle but close enough to enjoy cosmopolitan amenities when the mood strikes. Many people come to this neighborhood for its excellent public schools, especially the coveted Staley High School.

“You’re getting a K.C. address and a really attractive school district,” Jaylenn Wong says.
Wong is a Realtor with Platinum Realty who’s been selling homes in the area for four years.

Newer and older homes mix well

Although Meadowbrook Heights has some newer homes, many are at least 40 years old.

“This neighborhood appeals to younger first-time buyers who can find a home for between $250,000 and $300,000,” Wong says.

Home styles include split-levels, ranch-style, traditional and modern takes on Tudor architecture.
Home prices range from $175,000 for an older 3-bedroom ranch-style to $400,000 for a traditional 2-story home with four bedrooms built in the 2020s. Interested buyers must act swiftly, as homes in this neighborhood sell more than twice as fast as the national average.

Shopping and Dining

There’s plenty of shopping and dining nearby but nothing in the neighborhood.

“The neighborhood is mostly residential. There’s not really great shopping in that area, so people usually go to Liberty or a little bit closer to Zona Rosa,” Donalson says.

Along N. Oak Trafficway, residents can grab groceries three miles away at Cosentino’s Sun Fresh or Price Chopper. Restaurants such as Captain’s Sports Lounge and Hot Rocks Pizza are also located on this thoroughfare.

About 8 miles away, Zona Rosa features anchor stores, including Barnes & Noble and Dick’s Sporting Goods. Several popular restaurants are also located in this stylish outdoor shopping district, including the 54th Street Draft House, owned by a Northlander.
