Park Plaza is Only a Few Minutes from Downtown KC
Park Plaza is shrouded by greenspaces
Park Plaza is far from the sounds of the city but not too far from Kansas City's most visited attractions. The northland area suburb is surrounded by thickets of trees, where locals are just a short drive from neighborhood schools, pocket parks and retail centers. When not picking up the kids after school or commuting into the city for work, Park Plaza residents know it as a quiet community where neighbors tend to stay awhile and watch the kids grow up. It's in the Northland area where I live. I chose it because I wanted to get anywhere in the city fast," says Justin Berry, Broker and Owner of Plains Paris Real Estate Team, who has been selling homes for nearly two decades. "When we have clients move here it's important to get them to understand that you can travel 20 miles in 20 minutes meaning you don't have to live where you work, you can live where you love."
Quick commutes to run errands in Park Plaza
Park Plaza residents find themselves surrounded by shopping centers, ensuring that daily essentials are just a short drive away. "Lots of people move up here for the bigger house sizes and proximity to everyday amenities," says Rachel Kilmer, a real estate agent with ReeceNichols, running the blog Rach the Realtor and giving an inside look into living in KC. Less than a mile from home, The Village at Burlington Creek offers Sprouts Farmers Market, boutiques and restaurants. The center hosts Em Chamas Brazilian Grill for all-you-can-eat meats Churrascaria style, while Dominic's Casual Italian serves big plates of pasta. Tremont Square, featuring Aldi and gyms, is nearby, while Zona Rosa Town Center, only 4 miles north, stands out as a bustling shopping district with art galleries, more food and winter ice skating.

Suburban living close to schools
Forested winding roads and cul-de-sacs lead to raised ranches, bi-levels, Colonial Revivals and Cape Cods of Park Plaza. Roomy and large, most of these homes feature driveways with two-car garages. Residences differ from street to street, some with brick masonry, others with clapboard siding or stone facades. Away from the city, Park Plaza's home makes way for an enormous backyard with enclosed fences, with locals opting for outdoor decks or in-ground pools. A good number of homes were built in the 1980s and '90s, but there has been an increase in newer homes in the last 10 years, with prices hovering around $500,000, but new construction is going for over 800,000.

Park Hill School District is home to nearly 12,000 students
The well-regarded Park Hill School District prides itself on its 22.4 district-wide ACT composite score, which is among the highest in KC. The district also hosts the Park Hill Aquatic Center, where youth and adults can sign up for swimming lessons. Chinn Elementary, with other nearby schools, including Plaza Middle and Park Hill High, are within the neighborhood. Niche ranks elementary school with a B-plus, the middle school with an A-minus and the high school with an A. Park Hill High has a bunch of after-school clubs exploring conservation, film, self-care, and women's studies.
Learn to skate at the Line Creek Community Center
Park Plaza's Line Creek Trail puts bikers in touch with western Missouri's natural scenery. The trail's landmark "Triple Falls" is located in Park Plaza, and the paved 8-mile trail takes hikers through suburbia and heavily wooded parts of Platte County, leading south to Frank Vaydik Park. This green space is home to the Line Creek Community Center and Ice Arena, along with small cascading waterfalls. The Kansas City Northern Railroad lives at the park, which is a mini kid-size train for a quick tour. Locals can apply for a garden plot at the Gloria Dei Community Garden at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church to harvest fresh produce, herbs and flowers.

Park Plaza is 13 miles from downtown Kansas City
Park Plaza benefits from Interstate 29 running along its western side, with bus stops for RideKC peppered throughout this thoroughfare. "Being centrally located and north of the city, we have I-435, 152 and I-49, which allow us to get anywhere. Many people like living south of the river, but personally, I don't care for the traffic," Berry says. Kilmer agrees with this sentiment, noting that most clients enjoy the community because it's easier to get around. The neighborhood is 9 miles from North Kansas City Hospital and the newly built Kansas City International Airport.

Access to both city and suburban events
On weekends, many local families head to Worlds of Fun, and the season usually starts around April, drawing thousands for its thrilling rides. North Kansas City organizes the Arts in the Park every June, highlighting the community's local creatives. Although Park Plaza is in the Northland area of KC, it's still just a few miles from Downtown's arts and culture scene, markets, nightlife and annual festivals.
