Plantation Lakes
Plantation Lakes’ 21st-century homes
Traditional-style 21st-century houses on sidewalk-lined cul-de-sacs sell for $220,000 to $380,000, which is less than in some neighboring communities. Prices can reach up to $700,000 west of Highway 99 and exceed $1 million in Cypress. Standard features in Plantation Lakes include garages and front patios overlooking yards shaded by trees. “The neighborhood is a little newer than the ones surrounding it,” says local Realtor Kim Rensimer, with Martha Turner Sotheby’s International Realty. She’s been selling homes in Houston for 13 years. “They’ve got more of the Hardie plank siding as opposed to the fully brick construction you’ll get across the road.” Plantation Lakes also contains several apartment complexes along Greenhouse and Little York roads. With flooding a known factor in the Houston area, rain can impact water levels in Bear Creek in the southern end of the neighborhood.Highly rated Cypress-Fairbank district schools are a mile away
Plantation Lakes is part of the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District, which earns an A on Niche. The local schools are within a mile of most homes. Students may attend Dr. Debbie Emery Elementary School, rated B on Niche, on Plantation Myrtles Drive and the B-plus-rated Thorton Middle School, which is the farthest away. Cypress Lakes High School, on Greenhouse Road, gets a B-plus Niche grade and offers 38 AP courses.Nearby highways head to Katy and Houston
The neighborhood is between Highway 99, which makes a semi-circle around northern Houston, and Highway 6, which goes south to Sugar Land. FM 529 connects to Highway 290, which takes commuters 28 miles into Houston. Interstate 10 also heads east to downtown and west into Katy. “It just depends on which direction you want to go in. You’ve got so many different places you can go to,” Rensimer says. George Bush Intercontinental Airport is 30 miles east, while Houston Methodist West Hospital is 7 miles along Fry Road.Trails at Richard and Meg Weekly Park
The Richard and Meg Weekley Park, 4 miles north, has sandy pondside trails, playgrounds and pickleball courts. “It just blows my mind the amount of recreational opportunities surrounding us,” says Mario Rabago, Harris County’s director of parks. “We maintain over 14,000 acres of green space. Of that, people use over 7,000 for recreation.” Six miles west, Mason Creek Park’s 11 miles of waterside trails pass by playgrounds and exercise equipment. The neighborhood also has two pools, on West Little York Road and Plantation Forest Drive.Dining along Fry Road and an abundance of shopping centers
Fast food chains and local restaurants ranging on the international spectrum line Fry Road. Café Cuba serves comfort food, from sandwiches to meat plates, native to the country for which the restaurant is named. Imperial Pho’s menu combines Cantonese and Vietnamese cuisines for dishes such as beef vermicelli soup. Five miles south, big-box shops at the Crossing at Fry Road include Sam’s Club and Hobby Lobby. The nearby I-10 Frontage Road has restaurants ranging from Orleans Seafood Kitchen to Mama’s Texas Steakhouse. Copperwood Village, 6 miles on FM 529, has over 60 stores and restaurants. Walmart, Kroger and Aldi are less than a mile from the neighborhood.Fun at Richard and Meg Weekley Community Center
The Richard and Meg Weekley Community Center hosts frequent gatherings, from yoga classes to game nights. “My wife just loves the programs,” Rabago says. From the moment you walk in the door, you feel very welcome. We just moved to the area and she’s making a lot of friends there.”
