Scenic Hill is mainly made up of single-family homes. While the area is closer to downtown, it has suburban traits like homes with similar exteriors, tall trees, garages and driveways. The nature-filled park has a 2-mile walking trail that overlooks Mill Creek and other habitat. This park is also right next to Kent Senior Activity Center, one of the two recreation spots in the city. This center for residents over 50 offers a fitness center, clubs and an outdoor area. Kiwanis Tot Lot has a playground. Scenic Hill Park is a 5-acre green area with a basketball court, tennis court, and a walking trail. Students can start their education at Scenic Hill Elementary for kindergarten through fifth grade, graded a C-plus by Niche. Canyon Ridge Middle opened in 2023 for students in Grades 6 through 8 and is not yet graded. Diplomas can be earned from Kent-Meridian High, a B-minus school. Students can earn dual credit from Green River College, Highline College, Renton Technical College and Lake Washington Institute of Technology. Courses among these institutions vary from engineering, early childhood education and video production. The accesso ShoWare Center is the city’s concert and arena, home to the Tacoma Stars and Seattle Thunderbirds. The Tacoma Stars are an indoor professional soccer team, and the Thunderbirds are members of the Canadian Hockey League. Commuters can take Highway 516 to reach Interstate 5; from there, it’s about a 20-mile drive to Seattle. Commuters to Bellevue can travel on Highway 167, which merges with Interstate 405. This commute is also 20 miles. The Sounder Train has a stop in Kent for a commute with less traffic. Local travel can be done by DART (Dial-A-Ride-Transit), a smaller shuttle bus on a fixed route. Rafiki Restaurant and Lounge, in a bright green building, is known for its Kenyan food and friendly service; occasionally, there’s a DJ in the evenings. The Canyon Ridge Plaza has several places to shop, including Target, Old Navy and Ross Dress for Less. Scenic Hill is less than 2 miles from a Safeway and Fred Meyer grocery store. Other options include stores for Latin, Asian and European goods.
