In 2012, inspired by the encouragement of my husband, I took a leap of faith and entered the real estate business with a unique purpose: to use the proceeds from each sale to support the Treasures of Africa Children's home, now known as Treasures of Africa Kidz. This incredible organization was initially founded by my sister, Rita Langeland, in 2007, in response to the dire situation of AIDS orphans and abandoned children in East Africa.
Located at the foot of majestic Mt. Kilimanjaro in Moshi, Tanzania, this loving home provided a safe haven for vulnerable children, offering them nourishment, education, and a nurturing Christian environment. My husband and I had the privilege of personally visiting Tanzania and meeting each of these remarkable children, which further deepened our commitment to this cause.
Many years have passed, and the children who were once placed in the care of Treasures of Africa have grown into remarkable young adults, attending universities and achieving incredible milestones. It's an honor to have witnessed their transformation and to know that the support we've provided has played a vital role in their journey.
In 2021, the directors of Treasures of Africa made a strategic decision to transition from a residential care model to a family-based approach, resembling foster care rather than a traditional orphanage. However, their unwavering commitment to providing education and meeting the diverse needs of each child remains unchanged. I've been privileged to support this ministry from its inception, and I continue to do so today.
