Former resort community by Lake Washington
Less than 2 miles from Lake Washington, North Juanita offers convenient access to schools, commercial hubs and public parks in the city of Kirkland. The name Juanita was inspired by the Spanish love song of the same name written by Caroline Norton in 1855. This area originally was built in the 1920s as a resort community. Many homebuyers are drawn by the natural beauty of Lake Washington and Juanita Bay and the location 17 miles from downtown Seattle.
Kirkland native and RE/MAX Northwest Realtor Elizabeth Avery has lived and worked in the area for 30 years. "North Juanita is a beautiful place to live; there is a resurgence of life moving back to the area," Avery says. "The school system is a major draw." While lacking any direct lakefront property, North Juanita's proximity to the lake means that many residents own boats and frequently enjoy waterside activities.

Nearby Brookhaven Park runs along Juanita Creek and has a waterside trail and picnic area. For a more low-key outdoor experience, Josten Park is tucked away within the neighborhood within walking distance of many homes.

Activities and nature by Lake Washington
At the shore, Juanita Beach Park is a popular swimming destination during the hot months. Jeff Underwood, the owner of Seattle Paddle, says the public vessel launch is well-used, as many people partake in water sports. Kayaking and standup paddleboards are popular. There's also a snack shack and playground. Underwood says parking can be tricky, but plenty of people bike and walk to the park from nearby apartments and condominiums.
Around the bay's bend, on the northeast shore, Juanita Bay Park's 110 acres of forested trails and wetlands draw nature lovers, including birdwatchers and hikers. The 210 steps of the Forbes Creek Stairs are an intense workout on the way to the Forbes Creek trails.

Juanita Friday Market, community events
Juanita Beach Park's parking lot is the setting for the city of Kirkland's Wheels and Reels Winter-Spring Drive-In Movies. Preregistration is required, and it's $20 per vehicle. Also held here is Juanita Friday Market, which features farm produce, specialty items and flowers. Another option is the Kirkland Wednesday Market, which is held downtown. Both markets are open from June through September. The Juanita Bay Park Bird Walk Tour is held monthly, and other events in the community include art shows, habitat and forest stewardship volunteer days and seasonal and holiday celebrations.
Single-family homes, cul-de-sacs, condos
Old conifers and willows line the streets and cul-de-sacs of North Juanita. Some residential streets lack sidewalks, and most properties have a driveway and a garage. Contemporary developments with stone finishes and fireplaces are indicative of the Northwestern architectural style. Renovated homes and new construction don't stay on the market for long. Housing types include ranch-style homes, split-levels and traditional homes. Backyards are often secluded with wooden fencing and dense foliage. Single-family homes typically range from $850,000 to $1.3 million, though some go higher. Condos are priced from about $350,000 for a one-bedroom to $565,000 for a three-bedroom.
