Quiet Knoxville suburb near a growing retail center
Alice Bell is a sprawling northwest Knoxville neighborhood with many conveniences, including green spaces, churches, schools, and shopping. Major Interstates border the neighborhood on three sides, connecting to an even bigger shopping and dining scene in downtown Knoxville. A new Amazon delivery station, just across Interstate 640, opened in 2024, bringing with it the potential for hundreds of jobs. With that comes more residents, housing and retail options, says Adam Swann, Realtor with Move Home Knoxville. "It's really bringing a lot of people there," Swann says. "It's almost becoming a booming area like West Knoxville, but you're not paying the West Knoxville Prices."

Booming commercial center along I-640
Alice Bell has a booming commercial center on the northeast corner of the neighborhood where Interstates 640 and 40 converge. This area is a hub for big-box shopping with a Walmart, Lowe's, Home Depot and Target. There are various fast food chains and casual sit-down chains such as Applebee's, Cracker Barrel and Texas Roadhouse. Bulk items are available at Sam's Club, while Aldi offers a quick grocery trip. Taco Madres puts a Mexican spin on a sports bar that serves both Mexican and American pub staples in a relaxed atmosphere.
The new Amazon facility is located here at the site of the former East Towne Mall. And housing development on the east side is keeping pace with commercial development, with new apartment and condo complexes convenient to the shopping areas.

Diverse housing styles in Alice Bell
West of the bustling commercial area, Alice Bell maintains a quiet residential atmosphere with meandering, hilly streets and pockets of oak and elm trees. This area has a diverse mix of single-family homes, apartments, duplexes and condos. New Traditional homes with two-car garages are clustered together in newer subdivisions. Brick ranch-style homes, Cape Cods and cottages are typical in the area — and often on lots larger than a quarter-acre. Despite its conveniences, this neighborhood has a median single-family home price of much lower than the city's average. "It's one of those areas where prices have not caught up to the rest of the Knoxville market," Swann says. "In this area, you're still able to buy houses for anywhere between $200,0000 and $350,000."
