Hardin Valley
Mansions in the shadow of the Smoky Mountains
A few mid-century ranch-style homes, priced between $500,000 and $600,000, can be found scattered across Hardin Valley, but most options mainly consist of impressive stone and brickwork Modern Traditionals with colonial and Tudor influences. Toward the western side, the lawns sprawl over the rolling hills, while on the east side of the valley, houses are closely clustered in subdivisions. “The majority are two-story houses with four bedrooms,” Calabrese says. “They’re smaller yards and closer together than other areas, but people don’t seem to mind being so near their neighbors.” Prices for these single-family homes often hover around $650,000 but can soar as high as $875,000 depending on the number of bedrooms, the size of the lot and the year of construction. Homes located in the cul-de-sacs closer to the banks of Melton Hill Lake can climb well over $1 million.Dual enrollment and STEM programs at Hardin Valley Academy
Hardin Valley Elementary School scores an A-minus on Niche, boasting a competitive robotics team. Hardin Valley Middle School also receives an A-minus. The middle school offers a comprehensive sports program including boys and girls basketball teams. The high school, Hardin Valley Academy, rates a B and is divided into several learning communities where students get specialized support as they prepare for college and the workforce. Students can choose a path in health sciences, business and law, liberal arts or STEM and can participate in dual-enrollment classes with Pellissippi State Community College.Quick commutes to Knoxville and Oak Ridge
Residents of Hardin Valley enjoy easy access to Interstate 40, connecting them to Downtown Knoxville just 18 miles east. Pellissippi Parkway, which runs through the eastern portion of Hardin Valley, provides quick access to McGhee Tyson Airport to the south in Alcoa, about 20 miles away. Pellissippi Parkway also carries traffic north 12 miles to Oak Ridge, making the Valley an excellent option for employees of the Secret City’s tech development sector.Groceries and good eats in the valley
Although Hardin Valley is more rural than other Knoxville suburbs, residents don't need to travel far to shop for groceries and everyday necessities. Groceries can be picked up at Food City, located right in the heart of the neighborhood. Elder’s Ace Hardware of Hardin Valley Road sits at the east end of Hardin Valley, convenient for any weekend projects. For dining options, residents can choose between local eateries like the Orange Hat Brewing Company and casual chains like Dickey’s Barbecue Pit in town. Hardin Valley is also just 5 miles away from Turkey Creek, one of Knoxville's biggest shopping destinations featuring more than 75 restaurants and retailers. Among the highlights is the Smoky Mountain Brewery in Turkey Creek, which serves local brews and burgers. “Another nice thing is that Maryville is just a hop, skip and a jump down Pellissippi Parkway,” says Haley Van Edom, Realtor with the Van Edom Home Group and Knoxville native. “There are tons of nice restaurants down that way. Bella is this newer Italian place that does pasta dishes in the melting parmesan wheel, which is a great show.”The parks along Melton Hill Lake
Melton Hill Park, located along the banks of Melton Hill Lake, is the most popular park in Hardin Valley. This park rests along the edge of the neighborhood and offers views of the winding lake, boat launches, beach areas and 6 miles of natural trails to wander. Hickory Creek Park is another neighborhood green space hidden along a small creek that flows into Melton Hill Lake. More secluded than its neighbor, Hickory Creek is divided into two sections. One features athletic fields while the other showcases an inlet with boating access and a picnic shelter. As Hardin Valley continues its expansion, one feature of the community remains a standout. “You’re right up against the Great Smoky Mountains out there,” Calabrese says. “There are so many trails to hike.” In addition, Melton Hill Lake is a popular spot for fishing, boating and regattas.A small town with all the energy of a city
With a quick 18-mile drive down Interstate 40, Hardin Valley residents can enjoy all that Knoxville has to offer. “Downtown Knoxville is so cool,” Calabrese says. “There are great bars, live music, the sports, and it’s not as crazy as Nashville. It’s a small town with all you’d want from a city.” Knoxville is home to a passionate sports community, with the Civic Coliseum drawing regular crowds for minor league hockey’s Ice Bears. Along the river, Regal Soccer Stadium plays host to the United Soccer League’s One Knoxville SC. “Soccer is huge here,” Calabrese adds.
