A rural, recreational town in Tennessee
Set by the meandering flow of the Holston River, residents of Holston Hill live their daily lives with stunning riverfront views and the rise of the Great Smoky Mountains in the distance. The neighborhood is surrounded by splendid local attractions, and at a mere six miles northeast of downtown Knoxville, it's less than a fifteen-minute drive to the heart of Scruffy City. "At one time, it was just a huge farm area," says Teresa Guy, a Realtor with Wallace Real Estate and lifelong Knoxville resident. "Now it's a sprawling subdivision.” If someone is searching for a place to settle in Knoxville with stunning views paired with equally stunning homes, plenty of recreational opportunities and quick travel to downtown, Holston Hills is a personality-packed contender.
Clubhouse events and tournaments
A large portion of the neighborhood is occupied by the Holston Hills Country Club, where the original clubhouse opened in 1927. After its construction in the early 20th century, it was widely considered one of the state's best clubs and hosted many regional events. Still going strong today and racking in top rankings, they have tournaments and leagues for all ages on the well-maintained golf course. Members can also access the tennis courts, swimming pool and fine dining. "The country club has a ton of activities going on," says Guy. "It definitely brings the community together." According to Guy, Holston Hills is one of the 13 neighborhoods that participate in the Dogwood Arts Trail event during April, a route that spans through Knoxville to fully display the blooming nature at some of its prettiest locations. Nearby Skyline Park provides residents with nearly ten acres of open space, sports fields, and a playground and tennis courts.
Flower gardens and fall festivals in Holston Hills
Just a few minutes from the neighborhood, The Knoxville Botanical Garden and Arboretum is a staple destination for nature lovers. People can wander on the winding trails, enjoy the flourishing gardens and admire the stone architecture. The garden also hosts year-round events and programs, such as art and craft-making classes, plant sales, educational gardening seminars and an annual fall festival.
Everyday essentials and traditional dishes
Along the main thoroughfare of Asheville Highway, residents can find all their necessities at popular stops such as Kroger and Walgreens. The highway connects to the main artery of interstates, so it's easy to access elsewhere in the city. Locals head to Habaneros Mexican Grill for traditional dishes and blended margaritas in a colorful dining room. Jackie's Dream is the go-to spot for classic Southern food.
Most of the area’s nightlife scene is on Gay Street in downtown Knoxville at bars like Suttree's High Gravity Tavern, Skybox Sports Bar and Grill and Clancy's Tavern & Whiskey House.
