A quiet recreational oasis in East Tennessee
Bordered by the hip area of Fountain City, Shannondale has carved out a quiet residential space for itself. It's located a little under 9 miles north of downtown Knoxville, less than a 20-minute drive from the heart of the city. With city convenience and serene streets, it's a pocket neighborhood deserving of some spotlight. “Shannondale is unique with lots of cute 1940s Craftsman homes surrounded by pretty hardwood trees, which adds to the overall charm of the neighborhood,” says Steven George, a Realtor with RE/MAX Preferred Properties who was born and raised in the Knoxville area. “It’s what you would see in Southern Living Magazine.” Offering urban convenience without the usual urban noise, Shannondale is quite the find if residents want to settle in a laid-back neighborhood.
Traveling down North Broadway Street
McGhee Tyson Airport is where people go for domestic flights, just 20 miles away. Since walkability is low, commuters can use the public bus service offered by Knoxville Area Transit to reach work. Drivers hop on U.S. Route 441, or North Broadway Street, to reach their destinations.
Shopping at Food City, dining at Sweet P’s
The main thoroughfare of North Broadway is where locals can find popular stops such as Kroger and Food City to Nightlife in eclectic retail and service businesses, it's all available along one route. North Broadway is dotted with restaurants, including Hatmaker's Bar and Grill and Sweet P's Uptown Corner, which both offer classic American fare.
Take a seat at the bar at Hatmaker's Bar and Grill, just a short drive from Shannondale.

Daytime activities and nightlife in Downtown
Downtown Knoxville is a short drive away, offering residents many shops, bakeries, restaurants and nightclubs. During the day, people visit the Knoxville Zoo to see the many different animals or the Tennessee Theatre for performing arts shows. At night, the fun can be found at places like Clancy's Tavern & Whiskey House, Radius Rooftop Lounge and The Vault. Knoxville has hosted an annual Dogwood Arts Festival since 1960 in April, “People get to walk through the festival and see pretty Azelia’s and Dogwood trees with their neighbors,” says George. Residents also enjoy painting, live music and plenty of food trucks.
Decent-sized cottages with large yards
Midcentury and newly constructed Craftsman homes are common in the community, alongside ranch houses and smaller cottages with neat lawns. Newer homes typically range from $150,000 to $300,000, while smaller houses range from $470,000 to $550,000. Properties having both a front and back yard is a massive appeal for Shannondale, and while there may not be multiple acres, it's certainly enough to tend to a garden or let children and dogs romp around. Smaller houses and condos of typically two bedrooms sell for $200,000 to $250,000. Meanwhile, three- or four-bedroom single-family homes with more acreage and square footage land around $350,000. Houses don't stay on the market long in Shannondale, where they stay on the market for no longer than a month on average.
