A recreational, residential area in North Knoxville
Uptown Knoxville has a lot to offer: local breweries, shopping, quiet parks, historical homes, new housing developments and convenient access to the highway. The collection of suburban and residential areas interspersed with commercial and retail locations makes for a medley of living, shopping, dining, recreation and entertainment choices. Most people move here and stay because of the proximity to the Smoky Mountains,” says Steven George, a Realtor with RE/MAX Preferred Properties who was born and raised in the Knoxville area. “We also have four major lakes nearby which often get overlooked by tourists.” Uptown Knoxville has a small-town city vibe compared to Nashville and Chattanooga, according to George. Active retirees flock to the area due to its laid-back and peaceful vibe. “You have everything to do without the big city price tag and big city noise,” George says.
Hopping to Happy Holler Historic District
As residents head north out of downtown, they’ll end up on North Central Street which passes through a district known as Happy Holler, with a patchwork of longstanding Knoxville businesses, themed breweries, funky thrift stores, bakeries and nightclubs. Popular spots like Corner Lounge, The Oak Room and Club XYZ are visited regularly on the weekends.
