Rural Kronenwetter has spacious lots and new construction
Kronenwetter is an expansive rural community south of Wausau — in fact, it’s the largest village by area in the state of Wisconsin. This means more land for residents, which creates a more private, quiet lifestyle. “The draw to Kronenwetter is the fact that you can get bigger lots than in Wausau, and you’re dealing with a village instead of a city for management, which is a big perk,” say Realtors Steve and Jacki LaCerte, who work with Coldwell Banker Action and have about 25 years of experience in the area. This widely undeveloped area offers new contemporary homes, with new builds still popping up. However, it’s more common to see long stretches of untouched woodlands, red barns and open fields in the village, which is known for its grazing cattle and rows of melons.
Homes in Kronenwetter enjoy spacious yards, often larger than lots found in nearby Wausau.

Ranch-style homes, contemporary homes and agricultural properties in Kronenwetter
Located on the Wisconsin River, Kronenwetter’s north side is calm and residential, with subdivisions of single-family homes. Many come with half-acre lots, often partially wooded with tall evergreen and maple trees. This area’s architecture includes midcentury ranch-style homes, which range from $250,000 to $300,000. “There’s still some new construction there and a couple of subdivisions that are newer, where homes are coming up for sale already,” the LaCertes say. Located just south of the midcentury subdivisions, newer subdivisions offer contemporary homes built in the 2020s, ranging from $450,000 to $800,000. Ideal for agriculture, ranch-style homes on lots over 20 acres in size are priced similarly. The community also has plenty of undeveloped land for farming or building a custom home, ranging from $20,000 for smaller lots to $900,000 for multiacre waterfront properties.
