Trader Joe's, Seoul Market and an array of smaller shops line Foothill Boulevard to the north and Honolulu Boulevard to the south. Most homes are within a mile or two of dozens of local and chain restaurants, including the always popular Tickle Tree Cafe, which is known for its standout brunch. "The Honolulu Avenue shopping strip has tons of mom-and-pop shops," Sevan says. "It's got coffee shops, restaurants, shopping and bookstores. They do a farmers market there on the weekend, and there's Oktoberfest when they close down the little strip. They have events all the time. It's like a little downtown."

The Montrose Christmas Parade and other events

The annual Montrose Christmas Parade, which has been celebrated for over 45 years, brings together residents and visitors for a festive evening of floats, bands and holiday cheer.
