One of the oldest of La Jolla’s 16 neighborhoods, Muirlands is set about 10 miles north of downtown San Diego among the slopes of Mount Soledad. Surrounded by coastal hills, beaches and dramatic bluffs, the neighborhood is named for Harold James Muir (a common misconception is that it’s named for renowned naturalist, John Muir) who purchased over 250 acres of Soledad Mountain with plans to build Muirlands in 1926.
