A golf-centric community
Indian Summer is a gated community in south Lacey built around the Indian Summer Golf & Country Club. While the country club is the centerpiece of the neighborhood, people move here for more than just golf — the neighborhood is close to multiple supermarkets and shops on Yelm Highway, as well as some of south Lacey’s most popular outdoor spaces. “Obviously, most residents are drawn by the golf course. It’s a country club neighborhood, after all. But the greater area is also a selling point,” says Realtor Justin Clement with Better Homes and Gardens, who has worked in the area for four years. “The neighborhood is on the edge of town, so it has more of a suburban, almost rural feel, but it’s still easy to pick up groceries or get to downtown Olympia.”

Homes backing onto greens
Apart from the golf course and country club, Indian Summer is entirely residential. The neighborhood was developed along with the golf course in the mid-1990s, and most homes in the neighborhood were built in the '90s or early 2000s. Duplexes can be found on the north and south ends of the golf course, but most properties are single-family homes. Virtually all homes incorporate New Traditional or Craftsman design elements, feature large windows and modern open floor plans, and offer layouts between 2,000 and 3,000 square feet. As one might expect, many homes back up onto the golf course, offering views of the sculpted greens. Homes in the neighborhood generally sell for between $700,000 and $1 million, which is considerably more than homes in nearby communities like Horizon Pointe. Indian Summer has a CAP Index Crime Score of 2 out of 10, significantly below the national average of 4 out of 10.

Indian Summer Golf Club
At the heart of the Indian Summer community is its namesake 18-hole, tournament-caliber golf course. Designed by Peter Thompson, the course’s fairways are bordered by old-growth pines. Memberships at the Indian Summer Golf & Country Club also include access to tennis courts, a fitness center and a swimming pool. While there aren’t any parks within the neighborhood itself, Indian Summer is less than a quarter mile from William A. Bush Park, which features a playground, soccer field and duck pond. The neighborhood is also bordered by the Chehalis Western Trail, one of the premier bike trails in the Olympia-Tumwater area. The 22-mile rail trail runs from Woodard Bay to the north all the way to Rainier in the south, where it connects with the 14-mile Yelm-Rainier-Tenino Trail. Along the way, it passes through multiple preserves and landscapes, from forests to prairies.

Yelm Highway shops and restaurants
With the exception of Embers Restaurant & Lounge at the country club, there are no shops or restaurants within the Indian Summer community itself. However, there are several retail and dining options just a short drive away. "It's not in the center of town, but you're actually really close to shopping if you just need to pick up groceries," says Clement. "For day-to-day stuff, it's a pretty convenient spot." The neighborhood’s location on Yelm Highway means residents can easily access south Lacey’s main commercial area, which is centered around the highway’s intersection with College Street, less than a mile east of Indian Summer. The area is home to QFC and Safeway supermarkets, a few stores and over a dozen restaurants, including popular bar and grill HopsnDrops. Additional shopping and dining can be found in central Lacey, about 4 miles north of the neighborhood.
