Ladysmith is a quiet, commuter-friendly home base along Interstate 95
Ladysmith is a rural residential community in Caroline County along Interstate 95. Homes here are clustered around Lake Caroline, Lake Land’Or and the Pendleton Golf Club. “It’s inexpensive, probably one of the last inexpensive areas here,” says Stefan Scholz, an agent at Redfin with over 20 years of experience as a Realtor. Ladysmith’s access to the interstate makes it convenient for those who work in Washington, but who want to avoid the higher home prices of the metro area. In 2027, the first phase of a new data center will be built near the interstate, representing a multibillion-dollar investment in the area.
Ladysmith offers gated lakeside living and new construction
Buyers can find ranch-styles, bungalows and modern transitional homes in Ladysmith. Prices range from about $125,000 to $1.1 million. However, most are under $700,000. The median single-family home price as of November 2025 is $630,000. There are single-story homes around 1,000 square feet under $320,000 in Ladysmith; some sit along rural roads, and some are within gated subdivisions. Townhouses cost between $300,000 and $340,000. Land parcels are also on the market.
The subdivisions in Ladysmith offer different home styles and neighborhood layouts. In the gated communities, enclosed streets surround lakes and wooded lots provide shade and privacy. Some homes offer waterfront living and private docks. In the new construction community near the Pendleton Golf Course, modern transitional homes sit on compact lots with access to paved walking paths, a playground and courts for tennis and pickleball.
I-95 stretches north toward Washington, D.C. and south toward Richmond
Interstate 95 and U.S. Route 1 extend north-south through the car-dependent community. Heading north, it’s about 70 miles to D.C., 25 miles to Fredericksburg and 15 miles to Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center. “Traffic’s not difficult until the Spotsylvania exit,” Scholz says of the activity on the interstate. Heading south, it’s about 45 miles to Richmond International Airport, 40 miles to Downtown Richmond and 15 miles to the rides and roller coasters at Kings Dominion amusement park.
Neighborhood parks and nearby lakes offer outdoor fun
Within the community, Pendleton Golf Club is a public 18-hole course with membership options, and the Caroline Family YMCA offers indoor recreation and fitness classes. Subdivisions have their own parks, and those living by Lake Land’Or and Lake Caroline can go fishing and boating. About 25 miles west, Lake Anna is a vast recreational reservoir that is also popular with anglers and watersports enthusiasts. Lake Anna State Park has a boat launch, swimming areas and a fishing pond in addition to campsites and multi-use trails that wind through the forest.

Shopping and dining along Ladysmith Road
Most of the area’s stores and restaurants are clustered at the intersection of Ladysmith Road and Jefferson Davis Highway. This includes some fast-food chains as well as Giuseppe’s Italian Restaurant & Pizzeria, which offers casual dining with patio seating under twinkle lights and umbrellas. Shoppers can stock up at Food Lion and Tractor Supply Co. More retailers and restaurants can be found about 15 miles north in Cosner’s Corner.
