Along with the good aspects of owning a home in this part of the country, there are also some important things to remember. “Keep in mind that when buying a home, it could be a greater risk for flooding,” says Tommy Hayes, a Realtor with Latter & Blum with almost 20 years of selling experience. “The area is prone to hurricanes and prolonged rains. It’s also important to know that flood insurance is not part of the homeowners' insurance policy.” Most homes in this neighborhood are priced between $150,000 and $300,000, with the majority being above $200,000. The average price per square foot is $113. Some of the homes that were built within the past five years are still priced below $300,000. The popular architectural styles are ranch-style, bungalow, cottage-style homes and modern contemporary for some of the newer homes being built.Walkability is limited for long distances
While getting around within subdivisions and small neighborhoods can be easily done with sidewalks, it’s not easy if you want to travel a long way and don’t have a car. A few bus stops that venture north to the Stirling Lafayette Shopping Center are found along Louisiana Avenue, and a bus stop on Willow Street is west of the intersection with Louisiana Avenue. Interstate 10 is to the north, where traveling eastbound for about an hour will get you to Baton Rouge. The nearest medical facility is 6 miles away at Ochsner University Hospital.Shopping close to Interstate 10
At the Louisiana Avenue exit off Interstate 10, plenty of shopping opportunities exist at the Stirling Lafayette Shopping Center. Whether going on a Target run, shopping for clothes at Ross or for the furry member of the family at Petco, there’s plenty of parking and selection in the array of box stores. Some quick grocery items can be bought at Stop and Buy or seafood at the Stop and Buy Seafood Store on Carmel Drive.
