Laguna Heights
Varied housing styles in different communities
Laguna Heights is made up of a few different master-planned communities located along Golden Lantern Road, most of which were built in the 1980s and 90s. Housing styles vary between developments, but most feature either Spanish style or contemporary Craftsman design elements. Most single-family homes in the neighborhood offer between 2,000 and 3,500 square feet and typically sell for $1.5 million to $2.5 million. Backyard pools and sculpted patios and backyards are common. Condos in the neighborhood generally go for $550,000 to $700,000, while townhouses usually sell for $900,000 to $1.1 million. The neighborhood has a CAP Index crime score of 2 out of 10, well below the national average of 4 out of 10.Strong Capistrano Unified public schools
The local public schools are overseen by the highly rated Capistrano Unified School District, which has a rare A-plus rating on Niche. George White Elementary, Niguel Hills Middle School and Dana Hills High, which all serve the neighborhood, all have A ratings on the site. Within Dana Hills High, the South Orange County School of the Arts is a magnet performing arts academy for students within the Capistrano district.Trails connect the neighborhood
Laguna Heights’ green spaces are integrated into the neighborhood’s design. Multiple trails connect different parts of the neighborhood to each other and to local parks and are popular with hikers, runners and mountain bikers. “If you follow the Colinas Ridge Trail up to the top of the ridge, you can see aloof San Juan Capistrano,” says Blair. “And the Salt Creek Trail goes all the way to Salt Creek Beach in Dana Point.” On top of its trails and open spaces, Laguna Heights is home to nearly a dozen city parks that offer everything from playgrounds to basketball courts to athletic fields. Chapparosa Park on the south side of the neighborhood hosts local baseball and soccer leagues.Easy access to shopping in Mission Viejo
Laguna Heights is almost entirely residential, but it's incredibly easy to get to nearby shopping and dining. The only commercial area in the neighborhood is the Laguna Heights Marketplace, a shopping center that houses the local Albertsons supermarket, along with a few chain restaurants. More expansive shopping and dining options can be found by heading in just about any direction. Mission Viejo’s expansive shopping centers are less than 3 miles north of the neighborhood, downtown Laguna Niguel is just 2 miles to the west, and the local movie theater is just two miles south at the Ocean Ranch Village shopping mall. The Laguna Niguel Christmas Parade
A few local events are held in the area throughout the year. The Laguna Niguel Christmas Parade at Crown Valley Park draws thousands of visitors every year, while in the summer months locals can catch live music at Marina Hills Park. Not far from the I-5
Although Golden Lantern Road, Laguna Heights’ major thoroughfare, runs roughly parallel to Interstate 5, most residents are 2 to 3 miles from the nearest on-ramp. The Orange County Transportation Authority runs a few bus routes along Golden Lantern, but most residents rely on their cars to get around. It’s a little less than 20 miles from the neighborhood to both Irvine and John Wayne Airport.
