A rural feel in the suburbs of Chicago
Upscale homes close to various recreation options, the North Lake Barrington neighborhood is only 45 minutes away from the activity of downtown Chicago. “It is a suburb of Chicago, but it does feel rural, and homes are on one to two-and-a-half acre lots. People like the area because they have access to excellent schools,” says Melanie Parsons, a broker associate with Keller Williams Success Realty with about 20 years of experience. “Another draw is the access to the Fox River, and the hiking trails at the nature preserves.”
Homes reach over a million in North Lake Barrington
The neighborhood streets are wide and under the shade of mature trees as Tudor Revival, ranch-style and Queen-Anne-influenced single-family homes range from $500,000 to $1.2 million. The homes on the upper end of the range have at least four bedrooms, and up to 5,000 square feet. “There is turnover in this neighborhood when the kids get through school,” Parsons says. “There’s no need for the larger house anymore.” The lower end of the price range is in the Lakeland Estates subdivision, where a $30 monthly homeowners association fee comes with access to two lakes. There is a gated condo and townhouse development called Port Barrington Shores near the Fox River with prices ranging from $440,000 to $550,000. “There’s not a lot of turnover in this development with the access to the river,” she adds. Because of the proximity of the river, this development is in the severe flood factor category, according to the First Street website.
