Lake Holm is a woodsy community with plenty of outdoor activities
The Lake Holm area has a secluded, rural feel in the woodlands just east of Auburn. “The whole community is nice and friendly, and it’s outside of the city, so it’s pretty rural and nature centered,” says Tracey Zuck, an agent with Real Broker, LLC, who has sold in the area for about 10 years. Commuters and families often choose Lake Holm for its quiet atmosphere, away from the commercial development and crowds of bigger surrounding cities. It's also appealing to those who want to get outside — from lake and river access to a golf course and stables, residents can find adventure in their backyards.
Recreation centered around the lake and nearby attractions
The community’s lake has a small public beach and a boat launch, limited to boats without internal combustion motors. People often swim, float on inner tubes and fish for trout and bass. The Green River Saddle Club hosts equestrian events, and the Washington National Golf Course is open to the public. Just outside the area, the PGP Motorsport Park and Pacific Raceways provide high-energy experiences, from public Arrive and Drive sessions to drag races and national competitions. About 7 miles away, Flaming Geyser State Park is a popular hiking spot with diverse terrain along the Green River. The landscape has meadows, forests and fields, and amenities include playgrounds, picnic shelters and equestrian trails.
Homes line the lake, country roads and suburban cul-de-sacs
Buyers will find a variety of styles, prices and landscapes in Lake Holm. The median price is $950,000, more than double the national figure. Small ranch-style homes, cabins and split-levels may start around $500,000, while large New Traditional and contemporary builds can reach $1.8 million. Some houses sit off the golf course, and others are along the lake with private docks. Certain streets have a suburban layout with cul-de-sacs and densely packed lots, and quiet country roads provide a more secluded, private atmosphere. Properties often feature plenty of greenery, with bright lawns, red cedar trees and decorative gardens. Many lots have driveways and garages, limiting the number of cars parked on the residential roads. The CAP Index Crime Score is 1 out of 10, lower than the national average of 4.
Education through the Auburn School District
Schools in Lake Holm are part of the Auburn School District, which gets an overall B-plus grade on Niche. Children begin at Lake View Elementary, which scores a B rating on Niche. Cascade Middle earns a B-minus, and B-rated Auburn High offers dozens of clubs and extracurriculars, such as robotics and culinary arts.
Shopping and dining in Covington and Maple Valley
Aside from Varsity Grill, which serves pub fare at the golf course, Lake Holm has no stores or restaurants. “People are going to Maple Valley and the other smaller outlying towns to shop and dine,” Zuck says. Maple Valley is about 10 miles away and has big-box options like Safeway and Fred Meyer. Covington, 5 miles north, has Walmart and Costco. The MultiCare Covington Medical Center is the closest hospital offering emergency services.
Nearby roads link to some of Washington’s biggest cities
Southeast Lake Holm and Lake Moneysmith roads are the two main thoroughfares within the area and lead to larger thoroughfares, such as Washington State Route 18. Route 18 connects with Interstate 5, which leads to Tacoma, 20 miles southwest, and Seattle, 30 miles northwest. “It’s close enough to where you could go to Seattle and make a night or a weekend out of it,” Zuck says.
