A Aerial View of the Lake Grove Neighborhood in Lake Oswego.
A wooded southwest Portland enclave
Established gardens, private lots and quiet winding lanes bring a sense of peaceful charm to Lake Grove, a Lake Oswego neighborhood. Towering pine trees shade the area’s residential streets, and locals are less than a mile from the waterfront parks along the shores of Oswego Lake. “The tall trees here give Lake Grove a more established feel, along with a sense of added privacy,” says Sharon Nuss, a local Realtor with John L. Scott Real Estate. “It sets it apart from newly developed subdivisions in the area.” The neighborhood has an almost-rural atmosphere while being just 20-minutes from all downtown Portland has to offer and 3 miles from Tigard’s shops and amenities.
High price tags and eclectic architecture
Houses here tend to have higher price tags compared to nearby neighborhoods like Mountain Park, Lake Forest and Palisades, with an average home price of $1.2 million, which is around $700,000 higher than the average Oregon home. “The Lake Oswego area is almost like the 90210 of southwest Portland,” says Nuss. “The area draws in a lot of folks, but Lake Grove is a bit more affordable than those neighborhoods right on the lake.” While most of the area’s houses are listed for $800,000 or higher, homebuyers can snag a two-bedroom, 1,000-square-foot condo for around $450,000. “The homes here also have a lot of character,” Nuss says. “It’s not cookie cutter and every house is different.” For $2 million, folks will find four and five-bedroom, craftsman-style homes and Colonial Revivals built after 2015 with 3,500-square-feet or more.

A-rated public schools
“The community draws in a lot of young families because of the highly ranked schools,” Nuss says. Kids of Lake Grove either attend Lake Grove Elementary School or Forest Hills Elementary School – which respectively receive an A-plus and an A overall grade from Niche. Students from both elementary schools move on to Lake Oswego Junior High School, the sixth-best public middle school in Oregon, with an A rating, according to Niche. Older students can attend Lake Oswego High School, which Niche names the best public high school in Oregon, with an impressive A-plus rating. High Schoolers are offered over 70 sports and club options to consider, with around 70% of the student body participating in extracurricular activities.
