Waterfront-living on Lake Zurich
Lake Zurich is swimming with opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors. This Chicago suburb provides residents with a year-round vacation lifestyle and immediate access to its three lakes – Lake Zurich, the biggest, Echo and Forest Lakes. “Lake Zurich is an area that is excellent for people who are outdoor enthusiasts because of the plethora of activities to be had around the lakes,” says long-time local Cherie Smith Zurek, Realtor with RE/MAX Suburban. What was once a resort town, now caters primarily to permanent residents while maintaining the resort-like amenities that many would travel for. Prospective buyers are attracted to the lakefront life, highly rated school district and the small-town feel conveyed through annual events like the Rock The Block festival. A waterfront suburbia is achieved in Lake Zurich, offering a highly sought-after vacation-like reality 40 miles outside of Chicago.
Sunset views in the sand at Breezewald Park
With Lake Zurich at the center of the community, water sport activities like kayaking and boating are common. “It is a big deal to be close to the lake because it is like you’re living in a resort town, but you’re in the suburbs of Chicago,” says Zurek. To access the lake, you need to either live on the lake property or become a member of one of the beach clubs on the lake, which Zurek says “are highly desirable.” Residents often stroll on the paved paths that surround the lake or sunbathe on the beaches found at either Paulus Park or Breezewald Park. Not only does Paulus Park offer a beach and boating launch, but locals can climb on the jungle gym or ice-skate during the winter months. Zurek recommends visiting Paulus Park to see the sun rise and then Breezewald Park for the sunset. Unlike the private Lake Zurich, Paulus Park will let non-residents in, but there is a charge. Golf enthusiasts are in luck with the members-only Lake Zurich Golf Club nearby, offering 9 holes perfect for fine-tuning a golf swing. For on-the-go dining, check out Oak Ridge Marsh Park for a mulched playground and outdoor dining under the shaded pavilion.
