One of the premier colleges near Lake Bonny is Southeastern University a pride of the area.
Small residential Lakeland community passionate about local football
Conveniently located between Tampa and Orlando, Lake Bonny is a small residential community known for its active lifestyle and proximity to several colleges. “Southeastern University has the only college football program in Lakeland, and games are a big deal here,” says Brandon Gengler, Realtor at Keller Williams Realty Smart and a Lakeland resident for nearly 30 years. Along with filling the stands at Southeastern’s Victory Stadium, folks here enjoy strolling the neighborhood’s palm tree-shaded walking trails and touring the world’s largest single-site collection of Frank Lloyd Wright architecture on the campus of Florida Southern College.
Playing ball at Fletcher Park
The 113-acre Fletcher Park features a mile-long walking trail around Bonny Lake, as well as a playground with rope climbing areas and ball fields where local Little Leagues play. There are four skateboarding courses at the local Lakeland Skate Park, while about 5 miles north of Lake Bonny, the new 168-acre Bonnett Springs Park offers a nature center and the Hollis Botanical Garden, filled with pink rose bushes and Spanish-inspired architecture. At Lake Hollingsworth, set on the southern tip of the neighborhood, residents can sign up for water-ski competitions and powerboat regattas.

Competitive home prices in Lake Bonny
Gengler says people are moving here from Tampa or Orlando for better prices and more variety in properties. “You can live in a rural area closer to the lake or a more urban setting the further you are to downtown,” says Gengler. One to two-story midcentury bungalows are typically priced between $150,000 to $300,000 and feature narrow front walkways that lead to tiny front porches. Ranch-style homes built on quarter-acre lots in the late 1960s through mid-'70s have up to three bedrooms and average $230,000; these homes are set along winding streets dotted with palm trees and live oaks hung with Spanish moss.
Ranch-style homes can be found in more rural parts of Lake Bonny in Lakeland.
Larger bungalows in Lake Bonny often feature wide porches and brick exteriors.
