Sweeping views, no stress

With sweeping views of the Rocky Mountains, Lakewood’s Glennon Heights offers residents a soothing suburban experience without stressing their wallets. “It’s not one of the newer areas, but there are nicely maintained and interesting homes,” says Jesse Lynch, owner of the Welcome To Denver real estate team and host of a local YouTube channel. Just 10 miles southwest of Denver, Glennon Heights is the kind of neighborhood where "kids go to school together and neighbors hang out in the park together," says Lynch. With gently sloping streets and a welcoming, family-friendly community, Glennon Heights offers home buyers a calm, residential environment with easy access to shopping, dining and outdoor recreation nearby.

More affordable for just as much space

On average, homes in Glennon Heights are about $35,000 less than those in the surrounding Lakewood area "but still offer just as much space, which is a major draw for the area," says Lynch. “It’s also not cookie-cutter; every home looks different.” Properties come in a variety of styles, from town houses to split-level and ranch-style homes. Most of these single-family homes were built around 1960 and list between $400,000 and $600,000, depending on their size and upkeep. For over $1 million, newly constructed six-bedroom homes are also available and offer up to 4,000 square feet.

Getting outside in Glennon Heights

Named after Lakewood’s sister city in Australia, Sutherland Shire Park welcomes energetic kids to its primary-colored playground with stone posts wrapped in Australian-themed mosaics. Visitors can enjoy sitting down for a cool lunch on a hot day at the park's covered picnic area or playing lively games of fetch with the family dog in the open fields. The park also has paved paths that lace to Main Reservoir, a calm body of water often dotted with waterfowl. Residents can stroll around the water or stop on a nearby bench to listen to the chatter of the ducks as they preen their feathers. In the heart of the community, Glennon Heights Park offers respite from the summer sun with a popular outdoor pool surrounded by green space, a playground and a picnic shelter. Just across South Kipling Street, residents can find multiple baseball fields and tennis courts at the expansive Addenbrooke Park, where recent renovations included the addition of an outdoor fitness area and an updated playground. For those craving an even longer and more challenging hike than any of these parks can provide, Rocky Mountain National Park is about 1 1/2 hours away by car.
