The community's newest developments sit in stark contrast to the surrounding corn fields. Located in the heart of the Amish Country, Landis Valley is a short drive from roadside farmstands and The Market at Oregon Dairy, one of the most popular farmers markets in the area. "Oregon Dairy is a lovely family-run shop beloved by the community," says Susan Allison, Realtor with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices. "It's such a sweet and wonderful atmosphere with high-quality products." Along with locally sourced produce and homemade décor, Oregon Dairy is most notably known for its hand-dipped ice cream sourced from local cows and its farm-to-table restaurant. In addition to a petting zoo and a farm-themed playground, Oregon Dairy's family-friendly events draw crowds year-round. Fall kicks off with a corn maze and a pumpkin patch. The farm rings in the holiday season with a Makers Market that boasts over 130 artisans and food trucks. In the winter, patrons can admire a display of over 15,000 sparkling lights, cuddle up by the fire and take photos with Santa.Heading south towards Downtown Lancaster, chain stores replace farm markets. Shopping centers line Oregon Pike, with most retailers clustered south of U.S. Route 30. Dozens of big-box stores and the Park City Center, an indoor mall with over 100 shops and restaurants, offer a dose of suburban convenience. National grocers also cater to a wide demographic, ranging from Whole Foods Market and Wegmans to Giant and Aldi.
The nearby Shoppes at Landis Valley feature a mix of take-out joints and sit-down establishments like Highland Restaurant & Bar. Their pizza, cheesesteaks, subs and tacos attract hungry crowds, but Highland's extensive beer selection, weekly trivia nights and live music keep people coming back. Down the street, the Shoppes at Township Square is home to Gibraltar, an upscale Mediterranean restaurant known for its seafood specialties.
Afternoons at Landis Valley Village
Landis Woods straddles the line between suburbia and farmland. Due to its location, the neighborhood is home to attractions like the Landis Valley Village & Farm Museum. This former homestead-turned-living museum preserves the history of the area's earliest settlers, the Pennsylvania Germans. "It's a really unique experience where you walk around and feel like you're in an old village," Allison says. Next door, the Hands-on House Children's Museum offers a hands-on learning experience for younger visitors, with interactive exhibits and classes.Residents are a short distance from Landis Woods Park. This wooded green space features more than 3 miles of trails and is one of the township's largest tracts of undeveloped land. The grounds also house the Boettcher House Environmental Education Center and Landis Woods Nature Preschool. Two miles away, Overlook Park is Manheim Township's largest recreational area. Nearly 140 acres of land give way to paved walkways that pass by a members-only dog park, a disc golf course and multiple sports fields. Bocce ball courts sit adjacent to a large playground, while skaters can practice their kickflips at the skatepark. Patrons can also dine at the on-premises Stoner Grille after a long day at the pool, roller rink or golf course.
5 miles to Historic Lancaster
Red Rose Transit Authority buses run along Pennsylvania State Route 272, known locally as Oregon Pike. Due to its suburban nature, most residents rely on personal vehicles to get around. Significant thoroughfares include routes 30, 222 and 283. "All of our area's major routes run through Manheim Township, which provides easy access to folks who need to travel to Berks County, the Philadelphia area, the Harrisburg area and more," Hartranft says. Downtown Lancaster's Amtrak Station and the Lancaster General Hospital are about 5 miles south, while Harrisburg International Airport is less than 35 miles west.
