Scottish influenced Ballantrae’s conception
In 2005, a small development company began construction on what is now Ballantrae, a gated community in Pasco County. The name Ballantrae is inspired by a much older small fishing town in Scotland, as seen in the names of its six villages and streets. Even the name Ballantrae comes from the pronunciation of Baile an Tràigh, meaning “the town on the beach.” The neighborhood has nearly 1,000 homes, as well as a clubhouse, park and daycare center. “The farther north you get, it becomes sort of this suburban sprawl, and every neighborhood feels like its own little pocket, including Ballantrae,” says Brian Walsh, a Realtor with SkyCoast Realty. “Any time I drive through there, women are out running, there are a lot of kids out. But you don’t feel suffocated by developments due to all the parks and green spaces woven between houses.”
The Ballantrae homeowners association provides park space, basic television and security guards.
Ballantrae Park is popular with famlies all year long with basketball, sports field and splash zone.

Made up of villages named after Scottish towns
Ballantrae is divided into six villages: Castleway, Cunningham, Lintower, Braemar, Ayrshire and Straiton. Small bodies of water, towering oaks and wide sidewalks dot the neighborhood. “It’s a really cool community that doesn’t have grid-patterned streets,” Walsh says. “It has beautiful curving roads with gorgeous trees in the backyards.”
Straiton offers townhomes, often with three bedrooms and over 1,500 square feet of living space, priced from $315,000 to $325,000. Those in Lintower are two-story split-level homes, starting around $380,000. Cunningham homes offer five bedrooms and oversized garages. Homebuyers can expect these to fall between $450,000 and $550,000. Those in Castleway are double the size of homes in the other villages and have the highest price range of $625,000 and $725,000. Ballantrae’s homeowners association provides basic television and security guards.
Villages with Scottish names separate the neighborhoods of Ballantrae.

Across the street from the Suncoast Trailhead
The closest green space, Odessa Community Park, is about 5 miles away and offers a small playground and basketball courts. The Suncoast trailhead sits across from Ballantrae, providing access to the 54-mile paved path that runs through Pasco, Hernando, Citrus and Hillsborough counties. One of the larger parks a little farther out is Keystone Park and Recreation Center, featuring pickleball, tennis and basketball courts and water fountains to fill up during breaks. Those who prefer golf can join the Tournament Players Club Tampa Bay, an upscale 18-hole golf course with challenging ponds, a country club and a pro shop.
Suncoast Trailhead offers miles of paved trail for cycle enthusiasts in Ballantrae.
Kids and families enjoy Ballantrae Park for various activities from basketball to scooters.

Close to local restaurants and Tampa Premium Outlets
The neighborhood is bounded to the south by State Road 54 and Ballantrae Shoppes. The small shopping outlet offers chain fast-food restaurants and local eateries like Fish Bowl Kitchen, which serves fresh poke bowls, boba drinks and acai bowls. Next door is The Hungry Greek, a local chain offering warm pita bread and gyros. Across the street is an ALDI and Panda Express. Publix Super Market is also less than 1 mile away, along State Road 54. “Major shopping centers aren’t far – you’ve got nail salons, a bunch of grocery stores and Tampa Premium Outlets right there, which has all the stores you need,” Walsh says. “When you’re done shopping, you’re back home in 10 minutes.”
The Ballantrae Shoppes have all the essentials from restaurants and a gas station to oil changes and more.
Tampa Premium Outlets covers the full retail experience not far from Ballantrae.

Busch Gardens and Tampa Bay’s annual festivals
While Ballantrae and Land O’ Lakes might not host big annual events, locals can attend the many festivals and celebrations around the Greater Tampa Bay area, like the Gasparilla Pirate Festival in Downtown Tampa and St. Pete Pride – the largest, most popular LGBTQ+ celebration in the state. Ballantrae isn’t far from some of Tampa’s top attractions, including Lowry Park Zoo and Busch Gardens.
Getting in and around Ballantrae
Ballantrae is located along State Road 54 in Land O’ Lakes in Pasco County. It’s about 7 miles west of Interstate 75 and 2 miles east of Suncoast Parkway. “You can get to Tampa International Airport in about 15 minutes,” Walsh adds. “But the traffic can be an issue over that way; it gets a little crazy during rush hour.” Immediate medical care is available through St. Joseph’s Hospital and AdventHealth Central Pasco, 2 miles away.
